Disney with a Southern Twist- Tomber 11.11.11 UPDATE: BLOGGED & LIFE!! 1/24!

Thank you! :goodvibes I got the original idea from Mikkel here on the DIS ... she had made flower ones, and kindly sent me her instructions. I attached the two smaller styrofoam balls to the larger one (hot glue! :thumbsup2 ) and then used a sturdy wooden dowel for the base. I punched the hole with the dowel first and then hot glued the dowel as I put it in to make it extra secure and then wrapped it in ribbon. I secured the ribbon with glue dots.

The rest of it was pretty much like the tutorial you found, but I used smaller lengths of ribbon (maybe 2"-3") to give more control over the design, and 3-4 pins per loop. Only using one allows the ribbon to shift and move. And more pins allow you to position the ribbon so it covers more of the styrofoam. I seriously used hundreds of straight pins, LOL! But I'm really happy with the way it turned out. :)

Thank you! The whole deal top-to-bottom measures about 18" ... 11" of the dowel shows, but it's probably about 4" longer inside the styrofoam ball. We're planning to put it on our guest book table, and our guest book will be a Vinylmation Mickey. :)

Thank you so much for all the tips!! :) Nice to know you glued the Styrofoam balls first and then did the ribbon.. haha that makes sense, but naturally I was going to do it a harder way.. Good to see you used shorter length for the loops- less ribbon!

I was so excited to see what one looks like! I LOVE it!! I am going to get some materials this weekend and do a test run!

Nice to have a fellow Steelers fan on here! I am super psyched, this is the 3rd time they have gone since I have been with DF. They are his fav team too so we always make a big ta-doo about it. We have matching jerseys and do the face tattoos and it is always loads of fun. I will be cheering them on from this coast. ;) I def think history will repeat!

Love the Mickey and Minnie, super cute. As far as the buttons, if you need anything like that I can get some from DL and mail them to you. The only thing is I think they say Disneyland not Walt Disney World, but if you get in dire straights, I can mail them to you. ;)

I also wanted to mention that I am terribly sorry you didn't get the job you were hoping for. Times are hard and it can get frustrating, but don't give up hope. After I left Disney a few months back, I took some time to myself and then started looking and even though I feel I interview really well, jobs aren't coming through. I think it simply means it isn't meant to be. The right job will come along ;)

Whoooo Hooooo Steelers!!! :cheer2: I think it is much deserved after everything they have gone through this year with Rothliesburger and Harrison!

You are lucky- my DF likes football, but I think he tolerates the Steelers because of me... haha he always rolls his eyes at me when I start cheering and screaming at the refs... :rolleyes1 I am ashamed to say I just have one Steeler shirt... I need to get a jersey and a hoodie... I totally will if they win the Superbowl! ;)

I still think it is so dumb that they are doing the Pro-Bowl BEFORE the Superbowl.... which doesn't make sense, because some of the best players get sent there, and if you are playing in the Superbowl- you don't want some of your best players to get hurt in a game that doesn't really mean anything! Plus they can't really enjoy themselves in Hawaii if they have the biggest game of their lives coming up! I don't understand that

Thanks so much for offering those buttons!! :woohoo: As long as they are Disney I don't mind too much!

Thanks! I guess that's what I get for moving without having a job lined up first... I honestly thought I would be able to get a job in no time, but I was mistaken! I have had several interviews- and either never hear back, or they just say NOPE, and its like, well did I do something wrong? :confused3 Luckily DF has been super supportive!! I just get frustrated when I send out hundreds of resumes and I never even hear a single word back... maybe they should hire better HR departments for these companies!! :lmao: I might go back to teaching in the fall and maybe try a lower grade? I dunno! I would like to get a career and not just a job! But at this point I will take what I can get!! :rotfl:

Thanks again for the kind words. Let us know how your test run goes! :thumbsup2

I love all of your decor ideas!!!! Where did you find the ribbon kissing ball tutorial? That is such a cute idea. My wedding will be Cinderella themed but I still want some hidden Mickey's somewhere.

I have to say the one thing I don't agree with you about is the Steelers. I am from Wisconsin so obviously it is GO PACK GO!! LOL!! All in good fun!!

Thanks!! :goodvibes I just actually happened to see an image of the ribbon kissing ball- and then I just stumbled upon the link when I looked into it further!

I am going to try to incorporate some hidden mickeys into mine as well!

Hahaha... I don't even think DF agrees with me about the Steelers, so no harm done! haha :rotfl: I was born a Steeler fan, so any other team was not an option in my family! But good luck to both teams!!! ;) But a little more pixie dust on the Steeler side! pixiedust: haha

SO

I went to visit my parents this weekend in hopes of trying on some wedding gowns! We set off early this morning for my first appointment at 10 am.

The first store I had never even heard of before, but had seen a fashion show done by them at a Bridal expo, and doubting I could afford the gorgeous gowns, I made an appointment anyways! :rotfl2:

So we pull up to the store, and I just happen to notice the address of the dress shop in the shopping plaza, "Suite 111" (note that I am getting married on 11.11.11) So that's a good sign! :thumbsup2 So the boutique is absolutely beautiful! Very well kept, neat organized, and the staff was extremely helpful and very friendly! My consultant was actually one of the co-owners of the store! So we pulled a few gowns and I tried on several. One seemed to stick out for me the most- the first thing I noticed was the beautiful sparkles all over the dress- and she even dimmed the lights and it looked like I had lights underneath the dress! And the neckline is just so fitting and very flattering. So I decide this one is a top contender and one of my favorites, but I still had two more appointments to go to, so I could be absolutely sure I had exhausted all of my resources, and to confirm that this could very well be my dress! She did price out the dress for me and they were having a trunk show that day- so I would be able to get an addition discount if I ordered today. So we parted ways and we were off!

The next two were HUGE disappointments. Apparently I forgot to mention that MB has almost ZERO places to buy formal gowns, and also it is Prom season... so the stores were flooded with girls- and several associates asked me what HS I went to..:confused3 haha which can be flattering I suppose... But they were overcrowded, understaffed, and honestly I didn't see anything worthwhile to even try on.

So I was still dwelling on the dress- and decided to go try it on one more time to see if it could very possibly be "the one". So naturally... before I were to get sized and measured for a dress, we just had to stop to eat lunch, and I just had to eat a HUGE burger and fries! :lmao:

So we get back to the original store, and we made a few additional pulls and the "could possibly be the one" dress. But no other dress seemed to compare to the way the other one felt, so I put it on again. Now I wasn't planning on a veil, and I still don't think I want one, but for some reason when she put that veil on, I choked up a little bit, and just smiled like a crazy person, and I knew this was my dress.

So.... here... is.... MY... dress.... AHHHHHH!!! :goodvibes

There are TONS of sparkles on this dress that you can't see on the picture! And it is gorgeous on and fits perfectly!! It is the right length- so I can wear flats, and it doesn't even need to be bustled!! It was also right on price point! And nothing underneath- as it has the skirt already built in!

So the last moment of the day was by far the most memorable- I had kept harassing my mom all day asking why she wasn't crying for any of the dresses I tried on, and how was I suppose to know it was the one if I had no tears from anyone! So I pointed out that she was getting teared up last night during the movie Jerry Maguire!!! So I was telling her, " Mom! You were getting teary-eyed for Jerry Maguire, but not even for your own daughter's wedding dresses!?!?" She just kept laughing and saying "You Complete Me." So after purchasing MY DRESS, we are leaving the store and walking out to the car, and I looked at my mom and she was teary-eyed and to the point of tears.. and I said, " OH my gosh you are crying now!?!? After we already left the store!?! Really?!" Haha.. and she just started laughing and said she didn't want to cry in public... lol... it was a good time! :goodvibes

So I found the dress I am going to marry my future husband in!! :woohoo:

Yeah for finding a dress:cool1: It's is absolutely beautiful you will look like a princess in it. It reminds me of the Disney dresses by Alfred Angelo :)

:cheer2: Hooray for find THE dress :cheer2:

I love the way the skirt falls. The texture of the fabric is a bit different than some of the other gowns I've seen recently, and looks really nice.

The not wanting to cry in public thing is cute.

My mom didn't cry when I was trying dresses on either. Not over any of them (probably too busy taking pictures). Honestly, neither did I. I just knew when I put it on that it was the one I was meant to wear.

Funny side note, I almost cried when my MOH (who was in a BM dress in my actual color) handed me a bouquet when I showed the dress to her. My grandma and mom thought that was pretty funny.

I love your dress! I can see how the fabric has a really pretty shimmer to it, too. :thumbsup2 And as a short girl, can I say how envious I am that you don't even need to have it hemmed, LOL?

BEAUTIFUL dress!! I love it so much!! And yay for sparkles!!
And that's so sweet about your mom :)

Woooohoooo!! Go you! :cheer2: We both got our dresses within like 3 days of each other! Sooooo excited for you! You're going to loook GORGEOUS in it! :thumbsup2 :lovestruc

Yippieeee skippyyy good luck charm! :dance3: :bride: princess: :grouphug: :tink:

Congratulations on finding your dress! I'm sure it's even prettier than the picture, with the day that you describe all of the sparkles. It looks so pretty!

The story with your mom is so sweet. No one cried when I tried on my dress, but that was okay. If my dad was there he might have cried at some of the other dresses' price tags!

Congrats on finding the dress!! It is gorgeous!! Your mom is so sweet. One more thing checked off your list.

Thank you!! It does kinda have that feel! :)

That is a totally gorgeous dress!! I love it!

Thanks! I love it too!

Very pretty!!! How exciting, congrats!!!

Yes, it is pretty unique, and haven't really seen a dress like it- and it just feels so good on!

Haha, isn't it funny how something like that can just give you that "OH my gosh, I am getting MARRIED" feeling? :rotfl:

I love your dress! I can see how the fabric has a really pretty shimmer to it, too. :thumbsup2 And as a short girl, can I say how envious I am that you don't even need to have it hemmed, LOL?

Thank you!! Haha... usually I have trouble with everything being so short, since I am taller, so this is working out for the best! And I can get flats!!

BEAUTIFUL dress!! I love it so much!! And yay for sparkles!!
And that's so sweet about your mom

YAY!!!! :woohoo: Haha oh my Mother! :upsidedow

Thanks!! My dad held it in pretty well- of course he was distracted by the complimentary water with lemon and mini-muffins! :lmao:

Congrats on finding the dress!! It is gorgeous!! Your mom is so sweet. One more thing checked off your list.
