DH & I are planning on starting a family next year, if all goes well in the job hunt, and I was wondering about riding on rides, such as big thunder, Splash Mountain, ToT, RnR, etc and if you are able to ride them while pregnant...

I went while pregnant with both kids and I played it safe. I was in my first trimester both times but I didn't want to take any chances. So I skipped Splash, Space Mountain, ToT, Big Thunder Mountain - stuff like that. But I still had plenty of other rides to enjoy!

Good luck on your journey to parenthood!

I didn't ride any of those rides while pregnant. I'm pretty sure all those rides would have advisories against pregnant riders anyway. Not worth the risk, IMO.

You can always visit again after the baby is born - he or she will be free for three years!

Many rides have warnings about going when pregnant, and since it took me forever to get pg last time, I also played it safe. There was still plenty for us to do at all of the parks. So it's not a waste to go while pg.

I think a lot of the rides have warnings. Some may be a little over-cautious (AK Safari is one that comes to mind), but I personally wouldn't go on any of the ones that have height restrictions or that I had any concern over. Just not worth it, IMO.
Good luck to you!

I can't really see how splash mountain would bother you. I mean a ride in the car is more risky than splash mountain. I would avoid the roller coasters though and stuff like that.

I went while I was pregnant with our last one. I didn't go on anything that had the pregnancy warnings with the exception of the safari at AK.

I also wanted to add that I never went to an amusement park while pregnant but I was in a really bad car accident while pregnant. I was worried that I would lose the baby, but the doctors told me that there is so much padding and fluid that protects the baby in the early months. In fact, miscarriages in the early months are rarely but can be caused by trauma. They are more often the result of chromosomal abnormalities-this is the most common reason for miscarriages, then probably illnesses, hormonal abornormalties and sometimes medicines and poisons like drugs and excessive drinking. However, most of the time miscarriages are not the fault of the mother.
That being said I would still play it on the safe side. More than anything morning sickness will play a bigger factor in what you ride.

My last trip I was 12 weeks along and did Test Track,The Safari ride and the Dinosaur in AK.THose 3 are on the list to avoid if ur expecting. The others I didnt do like all the mountains and what other rides they have on the list. But being the many times I knew what I could handle being on them before hand. So if u have been before then u have a idea what rides u can handle while there..Have fun.

I went when I was pregnant with both of my kids, and avoided any of the thrill rides. I was going to ride Test Track, but one of the other people with us said not to because of the g-forces. He's an air force pilot, so I figured he would know about g-forces. Just wanted to point that out, because Test Track seems pretty harmless-like riding in a car. He's not a doctor though, so I can't say if it really would have been harmful, but why take a chance?

I also did that 'other' park in Florida (but I love Disney better!!) when pregnant with my first son, and if there was a warning I just asked the staff who were at the entrance what each ride entailed. Then I made a decision based upon the information- such as a ride where the floor dropped 6 inches- I figured being in my first trimester, that drop would not knock me off balance as it would have at 9 months , so I went on it.

It pays to be safe, use your common sense and mom instinct and you will be fine.

We went last year in January when I was 7 months along. I pretty much opted out of riding it if it had a height restriction. That worked out well since I could do other things with my "too short" daughter.

Of course I did make some exceptions. I rode Splash Mountain. I figured the plane ride down to FL was riskier, and since I'd been on it before I knew what to expect. In AK I did both KS & Dinosaur - but again, I knew what to expect. At Epcot, despite its height restriction, I did do Soarin' after I had DH check it out for me first.

OK - so mostly I'm just posting a second time because now I KNOW I'm pregnant (instead of just suspecting when posting earlier) and I'm so excited to tell people that I could just burst. :cloud9:

So, I'm going to go with the height restriction rule for myself when we go in May and not ride anything that my son can't ride.

Play it safe - ask your doctor - use your judgement. I went when I was in my second trimester & skipped a lot of the motion rides- just wasn't up to it. You would hate for something to happen just because you wanted to go on a ride that will be there the next time you go.

I went to WDW pregnant and I have to say that I agree with "play it safe" and "don't chance it"...don't do the thrill rides!

But another thing I wanted to add, make sure you drink plenty of water. It is so easy to get dehydrated in the parks. Keep a water bottle full and bring it with you throughout the day.

Have a safe and fun trip!

Curious...since you were most likely showing at the time, did a cast member say anything to you when you were getting on the ride? I am going in May and will be 5 months and am planning on riding SM, but wondered if they would let me?

if you've ever been the speaker or the receiver on a "whens the baby due" comment when none was due, then the horror of making that mistake probably won't feel true to you, but i think it's gonna stop 90 percent of the comments......

I doubt even if you were 9 mos they would say much as many of us ladies, myself included, have the baby belly remaining after the baby....what a horrible mistake to make, mentioning a woman being preggers when she's not.....i just wouldn't ride any ride where the bar is uncomfortable or you think you'll be thrown against the bar. the one restriction i thought was really strange was the safari ride...i guess the truck jumps around a bit but the car ride was more rough than that.......

lotsa water lady and find the restrooms when you get there for a hasty trip when needed. also, you might check with your md about motion sickness meds ok for pregnancy. some rides got to me during my pregnancy, buzz lightyear and pooh and i never am nauseated by rides usually.........

congrats on the baby!!

Funny you should mention that....

I worked at Disney in my early 20's and one of my jobs was at Body Wars in Wonders of Life. In our training, they told us that if a woman came up in line and was obviously pregnant, we were supposed to ask them if they were pregnant and if so, they had to sign a bunch of waivers before they could ride.

Well...one time I saw a woman come up who literally looked 8 months pregnant (in my 22 year old eyes  ) Yup, you guessed it, she wasn't! And after the ride was over she proceeded to yell at me for about 20minutes about how I ruined her whole trip to Disney, etc., etc. I thought she was being a bit extreme but I did feel really bad.

And guess what? I NEVER asked anyone if they were pregnant again. I figured that they read the signs and it was their problem...

Well... it was winter and I had a windbreaker on so there might have been some question in the mind of the CMs but the only place I was "asked" was at Dinosaur. CM just said "did you see the sign?" I had and I acknowledged that, I'd also said that I'd been on it before and I would be okay with it. They can't really stop you from getting on. I don't know about the legalities of it, but I think the sign pretty much covers their butts if anything were to happen. At my local amusement park they even have a sign saying you should not ride the train if pregnant. CYA.

We visited Disney in 1999 when my daughter was 4 and my wife 6 1/2 months pregnant with my son. We avoided the big rides like the Mtn's, but she rode down on the family water slide at Blizzard Beach. IMO riding the big rides is too risky. You will have a great excuse to go back (not that you really need one!) :thumbsup2
