Hi Everyone,
I just signed up for the Disney Visa. My question is how fast can you accumluate Disney Dollars? Is it practical to charge everything you can on the card and then pay it off before interest accumulates to earn Disney Dollars faster? I guess I am curious to hear other peoples' strategy...
Thx,
ADP

That's exactly what we have started doing. We put all of our charges that would normally go on the visa check card and other credit cards on the Disney Visa. This includes groceries, gas, and even our phone bills.

What are the benefits of this card? Discounted passes?

That's what we did. We've accumulated over 200 for our vacation this weekend. Also they have a new thing now where you can get issued a card and they will transfer your rewards to the card and you can use it like a credit card! Cool !::MickeyMo

That is exactly what I did when I got mine. I am not a big spender but I have accumulated a lot more Disney Dollars than I thought I would for my upcoming December trip.

Jillpie, I just checked the website to see what the discounts are. No ticket discounts, but things like 15% off tours, some savings off of packages, a lot of the similar offers that DC gave ordering special merchandise, rental car discount... not a lot but better than I thought it would be.

I haven't heard about discounted passes, but the card does earn Disney Dollars; also 6 months 0% interest on certain Disney Vacation packages. On Disney Visa's website you'll also find a "Special Offers" section. I'm still mourning the end of the Disney Club, but this new Visa is worth having provided you don't carry a balance.

I charge everything that I possibly can . . . books of stamps, gasoline, even bottles of pop at the local QuikShop !! (And I'm not embarrassed to say that I've charged amounts as little as $1 or $2 or so; it all adds up!!) The key is to pay your balance in full to avoid the interest.

And when one of my good friends had a major purchases to make, I've even allowed them to pay me for the purchase price, then went with them to the store and charged their purchase on my card. Got a lot of Reward Dollars this way when they made a major furniture purchase !!

Oh yeah, I love being the one to pick up the bill when my department goes out to lunch. It's like getting free disney dollars because I get reimbursed.

I didn't know that you could charge stamps.... I should really just try to charge everything from now and not just assume you have to pay cash.

Another thing, I have an incentive to get some christmas shopping done early so that we can use the disney dollars from that on our Thanksgiving thru Pearl Harbor Day trip.

Thanks Helenabear. Does this card act like a debit card as well? Please tell me about the disney dollars that it accrues? How much do you have to spend to get a certain amount?

You get 1%... So for every $100.00 you spend, you get 1 Disney Dollar back.. Not much but it does add up quickly.

6 months 0% interest on certain Disney Vacation packages

For those that don't know...

This was brought up a few days ago on another board and I thought I'd mention it here.

For anyone that carries a balance on their card....If you charge your Disney vacation expecting 0% interest for 6 months, keep in mind that any payments you make will be applied to the vacation balance first (or at least a vast majority of it) until that portion is paid in full.

There was a poster who was quite unhappy to find that this is what they did. It's not just the Disney card that does this with special interest rate offers, most all do.

So, how do the points from a Disney Visa help you at Disney World. I know kids get in free, but I have no kids, so does it help me at all? Also, I'm not going until May 2004, so how many points should I have by then if I get one now?

The "Kids get in free" thing doesn't help us either because our twins are now 10, and for some reason, at WDW you stop being a kid at age 9---bummer!

They have some deals on Vero Beach and Hilton Head resorts. I am hoping they offer that during our September trip. I would like to go to Vero Beach for a night after our Disney Cruise.

Some people have said they can get triple points in December at the Disney Store or Disney Catalog with their card, but I haven't gotten anything yet telling me about that. Maybe when I get my bill this month it will have that information.

Here are a couple of thoughts to get the rewards built up fast.

Savings Bonds: Can still charge them to a credit card (only until the end of the year though, government is changing the program at the end of the year and eliminating credit cards). Upto $30,000 per social security number, so you can do kids, spouse, parents, grandkids, etc. upto 30k each. Just have to keep the bond for a minimum of one year (however, I think that you lose 3 months interest if cashed in before 5-years).

Disney Vacation Club: Disney's timeshare properties. The down payment (or the whole purchase for that matter) can be put on the Disney card.

Car: Down payment. Most dealerships allow upto $2,500 on a credit card as the down payment.

Hospital: Having a baby? (We are, so I'm looking forward to this strategy) You'll have lots of bills, from at least 5 different places, to pay.

Don't forget about the small, but regular, bills that will add up. Check to see if you can pay monthly utility bills with the credit card: cable/satellite, gas, electric, water, trash, phone, wireless, internet, etc.

Good Luck!

Ok, so how do I GET a Disney Visa? Is there a place where I can apply online? I'd love to get one before I start in on the biggest part of our holiday shopping!

Good luck. We just got ours a couple of months ago, and it took well over 4 weeks from the time of application to actually receiving the cards. I'd suggest applying on-line immediately for any chance of getting the card a few weeks before the holidays.

Ditto on the online recommendation! I did it on line and had the card in about 8 days. My wife's card on the same account, however, took about 4 weeks. Never really figured that one out, you would think that the card used by the disney-shop-o-holic would be the first to arrive. :D
