I'm going down this weekend to WDW. I was thinking of picking up a Rewards card at Guest Relations but holding it till my trip in December and transferring the points then. Is this a good idea? I'm just afraid if I wait to get it later I may miss it in the mail or not have time to go to Guest Relations in December.

I believe you need at least $20 to get a Rewards Card. I would just wait until you are ready to transfer all the money. You could always get one when you are there in Dec too.

I Agree here... wait until you are ready to transfer the points.. so just get it down there the next time you go

If you do pick one up, make sure it has an expiration of Dec 2010 and not December 2009. Whether you pick it up now or in December, it should have the same expiration date either way.

This year I didn't order mine before the trip and got it from guest services hoping it would have more time, but in Jan '09 they were still giving out ones with a Dec '09 expiration date.

So how does it work when you pick it up from guest services? Just found out I'm going to be there next week and my previous rewards card is now expired so I can't transfer. Where exactly do you go and what do you need to show how many reward dollars you have? TIA!

Go to Guest Services in the parks or Downtown Disney with your Visa card and I think you need to bring an ID (I can't recall if they looked at it). They will issue you a new rewards card. Then you need to call the toll-free number to transfer your reward dollars. They should have a Mickey phone at the counter you can use to do the transfer immediately. When I did it I got the card, then did the transfer the next day from my cell.

It may sound like an obvious thing, but don't forget to take your Disney VISA with you! You're going to need that account number to get the card and to transfer the rewards to it by phone.
