I'm in the process of purchasing tavel insurance and I understand that the portion of my cruise paid with Disney Visa Rewards is not included in the cost of the trip. If you have to cancel, do you lose your points? I have saved a substantial amount over the last 5 years.

You should have it refunded to the card - it's like a gift card

Are you sure that you can’t include the value of the points with the insured amount? You are actually paying the “cash” amount of the cruise to Disney Cruise Line; you’re just using the Disney Rewards card to pay part of the cost instead of a credit card or actual cash.

If your insurance company does not allow you to consider the value of the points as part of the cost, you may want to check with another company.

I have used Disney Reward Card points toward my onboard account but not toward my fare, so I can’t be sure how insurance companies would handle them. My interpretation would be that, unlike frequent flyer points, the card has a set cash value and therefore anything paid with the card should be refundable the same as a credit-card charge, but of course you need to go with the insurer’s rules.

Insuremytrip will not insure the Disney Visa Rewards Dollars, but after a lengthy conversation and further review with a supervisor, Nationwide has agreed to cover them. I'm so relieved!!

Just curious, did you actually tell them you paid with a gift card that was loaded with credit card reward funds? Or did you use the points balance toward a travel exchange? I have never been asked with that company how I paid for my cruise, they only ask how much it costs.

I actually read somewhere that miles/points are not covered by trip insurance and since I used a significant amount I wanted to make sure before I paid for the coverage. Insure my trip.com said no, but Nationwide did agree after going over it extensively and explaining that Disney does consider them dollars once you convert your points onto the rewards card.
