Disney Visa Question

My husband has had a Disney visa for several years, but we never used it. Now, we are planning a trip to Disney World for the fall so have started using it to earn points. The one thing I'm not really clear about is the best way to get our rewards points. How long does it take to get the first rewards card? Once you get a card, then you can reload it at any time with just a phone call, right?

Also, I read somewhere (that I can't seem to find again!) that you can get a card & transfer points once you get to Disney World. Is this the better way to do it? Where can it be done & how long does it take?

One other question, we are going during free dining, can we use our rewards card to cover our restaurant bill for anything that isn't covered (alcohol, tips, etc)?

Thanks to anyone who can help! I'm sure these questions have been answered a million times, but I'm having no luck with the search feature!

It takes about 2 weeks to get the card by mail. I believe that you need to have $25 on it to start. I usually transfer all of my reward dollars right after the closing date of my last statement before I leave for WDW. You can make the transfer while there at Guest Relations, but I don't want to lose precious time standing in line when I can do it by internet or phone from home.

You can use the reward dollars for anything at a Disney park, restaurant, resort hotel, store, etc. It is usually good until the end of the current year or the following year, depending on when you get it. Have fun and pile up those reward dollars before you go!

I get a new card with the minimal rewards points needed to get a new card. Then I call the rewards number towards the end of our vacation and transfer any additional points. I do that in case a statement closes while we are there!! I charge everything to the room and then pay it off with the rewards card and another credit card. Typically the Visa but this year I'm going to use another type of card for the rewards. We probably won't hit up Disney again for a while.

Thanks for your help! We've still got a couple of months before our trip, but I'm trying to get all of the details sorted out & trying to figure out how much we need to budget for each thing....so knowing we can use our rewards dollars for anything is very helpful!
