Disney Visa Premier worth it?

We are "charter" Disney Visa members. (Makes us sound so important, doesn't it! :D) I just called to transfer our rewards onto our card for our upcoming trip, and during the call I was offered an upgrade to the Premier card. I always throw out the mail offers, but I'm thinking about it this time... especially since we'd earn double rewards during our trip and receive a $100 statement credit. Not sure if it's worth it. I don't use my credit card for everything, but they indicated that groceries earn double rewards... so if I started charging my groceries that would add up quick! The representative warned me that category eligibility can be quirky, so I asked if Shoprite would qualify for double points and he didn't know. What?! Anyone else know? That would really be the only way I could see the upgrade being worth it for my family.

I can’t see ShopRite being anything other than “grocery” so I think you are safe. But all you need to do is check a prior year annual report which breaks out your spending by category. That will show if your ShopRite is actually categorized as grocery. WalMart and warehouses (Costco, Sams, BJs) are not classed as “grocery” even if that’s what you purchase there.

Enjoy your vacation!

Thank you! I can't see it being classified as anything other than grocery either, so I was surprised when the rep couldn't confirm it. I usually use my debit card for food shopping, so the annual report wouldn't help me.

If you are not using the card for the 2% categories then it will end up costing you money to have the premiere card.

To break "even" you would need to spend at least $2,500 a year in the 2% categories.

They also have offers that you can earn cash back on. I’ve earned almost $24 back on their offers- statement credits. I’ve only had the card 4 months. I don’t know if the offers differ between premier and not. My Amex has way better offers, but it’s something.

Thank you! I spend way more than that on groceries alone, which is why I’m considering it.

We have the premiere card. We put everything we possibly can on the card, and pay it off monthly.
In just under a year and a half, we banked just over 1500 points for our September trip.
I just checked our points balance, and since September we’ve banked 303.19 points.

It works for us - but we use the card like a debit card. Every purchase is put on the card (outside the mortgage payment). My husband likes it, as it allows him to easily keep track of all our purchases - he is the king of budgets and EveryDollar 😂Before we signed up for the premier, we did the math and made sure it made sense, but sounds like it may be a good choice for you as well :)

We switched to the premier a few years ago. We do charge almost everything to the card. We have no trouble offsetting the $50 annual fee in about a month. The majority of our charges are in the 2% categories (gas, groceries, restaurants) so our rewards accrue quickly. We earn about $80/month in rewards. It's worth the $50 cost for us.

Since the AF is only $49 taking the upgrade is a $51 profit no matter what. If you don’t like it, downgrade it in a year back to the no annual fee Disney card. Chase is great in that they let you do that and you carry the card history so it doesn’t count as opening/closing a credit card on your credit report.

ETA: when I did that offer it took a few months for the annual fee to post. So the annual fee will come, but might take a bit to show :)

Shoprite is definitely "grocery". I shop there every week. If I remember correct, Disney, gas and restaurants are also 2%. Someone correct me...:)

It took me a while to switch to Premier too. I wanted to make sure it was worth it. I can always cancel it. I received $200 in my statement after charging so much for the first three months. I have no trouble reaching the amount to get my $49 back each year. I kept the Charter one also. The only two cards we own. I barely use the original/no fee one.

We pay our bill in full each month too (I actually make at least one payment a week on-line. I don't wait for the bill. I pay every few days once charges are posted).

Groceries add up. Wish Costco did but it's understandable - not all grocery. At least they take Visa now. I charge my homeowners and car insurance, my DVC MF Fees and anything I can charge (usually anything over $15).

It's getting hard now. Many places are starting to charge a fee for using a credit card. It is not worth it then. They either lose the business or we use cash (my hair salon, certain pizzerias, restaurants, etc.).

I am sure there are better cards out there with return/rewards. I like it because I put my rewards towards my DVC MF Fees (then in turn put balance on cc to accumulate rewards).
