Disney visa discount paying with a gift card?

This might be a silly question, but do you have to pay with your Disney visa at the select restaurants to get the 10% off? Or can physically just showing the card get the discount?

I have the Disney visa, but also have a ton of Disney gift cards/redemption card that I’ve saved for the trip that I planned to use for food. Some of the restaurants I’m going to offer the 10% off for cardholders. Would I only get that discount if I actually paid with my card? Or would showing it and paying with the redemption card be good enough?

As PP said you have to pay with the Disney Visa or Redemption card to get the discount.
They're not gonna give you a discount just because you have the card to show but want to use gift cards instead.

If you have Disney rewards from your card, you can “pay yourself back” on Disney purchases instead of doing the redemption card. Just saves a bit of hassle.

What if I have a $100 gift card and the restaurant bill is $400, can I get the 10% discount by paying the $300 balance with the Disney Visa credit card?
What if I have a $500 rewards card from Disney Visa, can I pay part with the rewards card and the rest with the Disney Visa card and still get the 10% discount?

I am not sure I believe any amount you put on the visa would get the discount. You would need to ask the store or restaurant.

I have tried this at a few places and it’s hit or miss. I think it really depends on your server. But I have used different payment methods on a bill and they did give me the 10% as long as one of them was the visa.

Also it the discount isn’t accepted at all restaurants so what I usually do is ask before I pay. If they don’t offer it then I use my gifts or redemption cards and save charging to my visa to the places that actually offer it.

What do you mean by this? Can you just put a credit on your Visa card instead of cashing out the points onto the redemption card?

Yes. So if you spend $1000 on disney resort and have $200 in rewards you just use the “pay yourself back” feature on the chase rewards site for your Disney visa to apply your rewards to that charge (instead of cashing out for a redemption card)

It's a contract that Disney has with Visa. If you want the 10% discount, the entire bill has to be either paid via the Disney Visa or the Visa rewards card. You can't add any amount of gift card or cash.

I'm not 100% sure how the restaurants work, but I know that in the stores, the cashiers can only choose those two options with the Visa discount, and the register will not allow any amount of cash or gift card if you want that discount. They are unable to override it.

I look at my ADR's ahead to see if they take a DVC, Disney Visa, etc discount. I pay accordingly. If a restaurant does not give any discount I use gift cards. It takes a bit more work, but I know ahead how I will pay a tab.
This is a good idea, but it's also good to ask when you get there too. I have once or twice run into situations where a restaurant that was listed as giving discounts online didn't in person and vice versa. More so with the Disney Visa, for some reason that one tends to be a little more volatile than the AP discount.

Just to add my recent experience with the Rewards Redemption card -- at an art booth at FotArts, we were told that they could apply the discount to the Rewards purchase, but only if we used the Disney Visa for any remaining balance (which was fine by us).

Let's think of ways of making something simple complicated!!

If a 10% discount is going to really effect where you eat... Like others have said, charge it all to the Disney Visa then apply your rewards to your Visa bill when you pay it. You get the discount, you get the reward points for paying with your Disney Visa, and can use your rewards towards your balance when you get the bill.
