Can you show the server your Disney Visa card but put the meal on your magic band and still receive the discount? If not, can I get a separate check for alcohol and pay by a different method. Will the server hate me and spit in our food (only kind of kidding)?

I'm realizing a lot of our meals will be at locations that offer the 10% off. I've been accruing gift cards to pay for dining, but I'm trying to calculate how much I'll actually need to maximize the discount. Although I think I sometimes can get more than 10% off the gift cards (6% back on Amex than up to $1.00 off per gallon on gas). Hmmm.

You have to pay with the card to get the discount.

You can certainly split the check into different payment types; people do it all the time with DDP and OOP.

This is the first trip in a while that we won't be on the DDP, and I plan to use my Disney Visa for the 10% dining discount. Do they automatically take it off? Do you need to ask? Or show them before you order?

I’ve used it twice, once at Biergarten and once at Trails End. I just mentioned it when they brought the bill. At Trails End I was able to pay part of the balance with my Rewards Card (zeroing out the card) and the rest on my magic band.

I believe yo uhave to pay with the card to get the discount. I have showed them my card and used my rewards card to pay and still gotten the discount.

Usually they do it automatically (and a lot of servers will make a comment about using the card). We've only had one instance where the waitress missed the discount, but she was very quick in getting it straightened out (I just chalk that one up to it being an early morning breakfast). I also usually put the card in the check book so that where Disney is written on the card is sticking out. I've never told them before eating that we will be using a Disney Visa.

In our experience, not all restaurants give the discount, so we always ask when the bill is presented. If the discount is offered, we have to pay with the Disney Visa card. We’ve never tried using the rewards card in restaurants; we just apply the rewards card to the resort room charges.

Most restaurants don't give the discount. If you go to the Disney Rewards page, under the "10% Off Select Dining Locations" there is a link of which restaurants participate.

We used the discount at Biergarten, Artist Point, Trails End, and Kona

Biergarten - we used rewards card and got discount on full balance
Trails End - we used remaining balance on rewards card, magic band for remaining bill, and got discount on full bill
Artist Point - just used Visa card got discount on full bill
Kona - (This one surprised me) Paid for most with gift card, then used Visa card for .10 + gratuity, got discount on full bill.
