Universal lets you buy a VIP ticket for $189 per day. That lets you cut all lines all day. And that includes ticket price.

Disney offers a VIP tour with a guide where you can cut in front of the lines at "select attractions". They charge $315 per hour, with a minimum of 6 hours. That is a minimum charge of $1890 per day, but its good for up to 10 people.
I assume that does not include ticket prices.

So Universal VIP - $189 per person

Cheapest Disney VIP (assume 10 people) - $189 per person plus ticket price.

We can see that Disney believes their line cutting ability is more valuable than Universal's.

Do you get anything else with Universal's? I notice with Disney you get the guide and the select seating etc. transportation etc. I haven't done research on this because it is waaay out of my price league :-)

Perhaps at smile at the ticket booth...that's probably about it.

Obviously you think cutting lines at Disney is more valuable also, because according to the tone of your post if the price were the same you would choose Disney over US. Otherwise you wouldn't have posted the comparison and not seemed upset that Disney holds that privilege in such a high regard. Just an observation.

With Disney's, you have the tour guide who can get you directly to attractions via backlot transportation (much less walking), transportation from hotel to parks, multiple parks if you desire, and often the ability to have last minute seating at sit-down restaurants (although apparently they advise that quickserve is a better use of time).

The front of the line access is not really "front of the line", it is FP access for all attractions that utilize FP - which is quite a lot since advent of FP+.

I'm considering it for our family for our next trip, but we're only a family of 4, so it would actually make more sense money-wise if I can talk my sister into coming along with her family of 4. Either way, I figure I can get 1-2 fewer days on our tickets if we can tour three parks in one day.

The price speaks a lot more about what people are willing to pay for the particular service than any "belief" someone at Disney might have regarding the relative value of priority access at Disney versus Universal.

It also does not appear that you are comparing apples to apples.

You are referring to the Unlimited Express Pass service at Universal. The more comparable VIP tour experiences at Universal do not include park admission and start at $169/$189 per person now (April 13-April 26), but after April 26, will start at $299/$329 per person.

Yes, and the $169/$189 is not a private tour. The private VIP tours for US/IOA start at $1899.99 for only ONE park.

I think you are throwing bad information out there. The $189 per person at Universal does not include admission. Its a non private tour which means you are with a whole group of people and go around on their schedule.

If you want a tour similar to Disney, it would be $1899 for five people/one park and $2199 for two parks.

Universal has an option where you can just purchase the express pass, without a tour or whatever. Disney doesn't. You can't get actual front of the line unless you're on a Make a Wish trip. What you get with the tour is fastpass-type access on attractions that have fastpass (which is now almost all of them of course.)

Who knows why Disney hasn't seen fit to offer strictly one price for express pass. they don't want to, and apparently they don't need to.

As for the VIP prices, it's been pointed out in the posts above the difference between Universal Express Pass, the Universal public tour (park admission not included) and the guided private tour.

Neither one is truly "cutting lines". At Universal, unlimited Express Pass just puts you in a different line. If it's busy and lots of people are using their EPs for a particular ride, you're in line in THAT line. Yes it's shorter than standby, but there still can be a line.

And the tour is a TOUR. A tour with "expedited entry to select attractions". Which I believe means access to a quick FP. Not really cutting in line. And from what I've read, most of the day is spent on the touring part.

You can't get actual front of the line unless you're on a Make a Wish trip.

Exactly. And unless you're super-lucky and happen to be the only one in the EP line at Universal right when the TM in charge of seating turns to the EP lane, that's the same at both parks.

That's true. Cutting at Disney is more valuable and I think the market got it right and the prices reflect that.

I thought the 189 per person at Universal did include ticket?

Disney is so much more magical than Universal. There really isn't a comparison.

That's just one person's opinion.

Back to the topic at hand, I would compare express to continuous FP+ without any limits. It's not a tour.

Exactly. Also, if you stay at a universal resort the express pass (unlimited FP+) is included.

Not the VIP. The unlimited express pass starts at 189 per person for off peak times and tops out at 269 per person during peak times and includes the ticket. The problem is Harry Potter is not included in the express pass. That's like saying TSMM is not included in FP+.

However onsite guests get the early entry into WWoHP so they have an advantage. It's best to ride Forbidden Journey at rope drop or in the evening. Somehow it is possible to find shorter lines at certain times most days unlike TSMM. I do wonder why it's not included though. :confused3

Not in our experience. It depends on the trip. Some trips we found more "magic" at Universal. Some, Disney. We allow ourselves to love both places.
