They only give me a $20 after I have spent $1000? But I don't spend my money until after my trip? I'm so confused.

If you pay for your room/cruise/whatever else on the list with your DVA, it would count towards the $1000.

And yes, you'd get the $20 Disney GC after your trip.... or could be before depending on how far away your trip is.

Can you have the balance of your DVA put on your MDE to spent while at Disney, after you room and tickets are paid or do you have to request the balance in a refund or GC?

No you can requesta GC up to $500 dollars and the rest has to be refunded.

Wish that were different. I read that it's a lifetime maximum of a $500 GC. So it seems like a one shot deal.
