I know Disney keeps track of income in many ways, i.e. how much a store makes , a restaurant , a park and such . They obviously must know how much is charged back to resort rooms ( like when you go out to eat and use your room key to charge it )

My question is do you think they keep track of how much money is spent/charged by people staying in rooms on points?

*I ask because I was doing a search here on the boards about discounts for DVC and what we have now and what was available in the past and was wondering why/how they give us the discounts they do. *

Just wondering
THANKS

Well, if you pay cash or use a credit card, how can they track what you purchase? They could only track what you charge to your room.

I'd say yes, they do track us. We have AP's at both WDW and DLR, and DVC membership. But even before we had all that, just had AP at DLR and a few cash paid trips to WDW,we started getting upgrades whenever we stayed at DLR hotels, paying cash, and using our AP discounts. Once they doubled the expiration date on my AP, giving me 2 years worth. I didn't notice till I went to renew, and she just smiled and said, you have another year coming.

Since it is basically the same room charge system, I would assume they do track DVC spending just like regular resort spending.

DH's thought is that Disney tracks everything, what you spend, where, time of day, what you bought, ate etc...right down to how many times you rolled over while you sleep at night(this is how they determine whether or not they need to upgrade/change the beds). He does have "big brother" issues though :rotfl:

reminds me of a DVC survey my DW took a few years ago. She filled in every detail of our trip into this 'notebook'. In return, we got a Disney pen each day that we turned in and a $25 disney gift card for returning the whole book at the end. It's amazing how inexpensive waving privacy can be.

They have been keeping track since day one (1971). Back in the 80's on a slow day when I was making reservation I got to talking to the reservationist. She read off to me every stay and room number. And for how long. She did say for the many times I stayed I only complained about one thing. Scary!!!

They may not do that today.

About ten or more years ago I thought I might open up a travel agency (never did) and took a travel course. Boy did I find out what they put into those computers. Be nice to the gate agents the next time you travel. You never know what they will put into the computer.

You can be sure they still do that today. Intelligence about your customers is GOLD in business, and Disney's among the best at using what it knows to its advantage. It's frustrating, for some guests, that Disney knows so well what they can and cannot do without hurting their bottom line.

Now THAT was a nice bit of Pixie Dust!

I want Disney to watch what I do. I'm a single adult, who has no children so as a Disney guest I'm in the minority. Most of what Disney does is directed towards families with kids, but if they start seeing more adults coming without children, they'll remember to market to us as well. Hey, no kids means more disposable income for them to go after!

We were hanging around the check-in desk at Kona one day waiting for our table to be ready. While watching the computer and talking to the CM working it, I found out that they even track how long a party stays at their table!
