From the Hollywood Reporter:

Disney has made a deal to revive the Agatha Christie mystery series staple character Miss Marple, but with one big difference: instead of the elderly spinster who lives in the English village of St. Mary Mead and solves mysteries as a hobby, the new configuration is for Mark Frost to script a version where Marple is in her 30s or 40s.

Jennifer Garner will be the actress who puts a young spin on Miss Marple in Disney's reboot of the Agatha Christie mystery series sleuth. The character had been portrayed by a long line of actresses who played Marple as an elderly spinster who cracked crimes in her spare time. Garner and her Vandalia Films partner Juliana Janes will produce a film which will be shaped as a star vehicle for Jennifer Garner.

This has to be one of the daftest ideas ever, Miss Marple was an elderly spinster lady in the early days after world war 2 how on earth do you modernise that??

It won't be easy.

While I liked the old Miss Marple, I'm in my mid-60's. I can't see this catching on with todays generation.

I enjoyed the modern spin on Sherlock Holmes put on by the BBC last year... at the same time, I don't consider that character to really be Holmes. So, while it doesn't sound like a great idea to me, I'll reserve judgment on this.

compare the new hawaii five-o to the old, compare the mission impossible movies to the tv series. basically the only similarities are the character names.

This has got to be one of the craziest ideas I have heard in a while. Whats with all the remakes. Can no one think up anything original anymore. I turned of the new Hawaii Five - 0 after the first 10 minutes.

While I agree that "modernizing" Miss Marple is an odd concept, anything that "Garners" me more Jennifer on TV is a good thing :lovestruc

Not impressed.............the whole idea behind why Miss Marple was so good at solving crime was from living so many years in a small village and seeing that people really acted the same no matter where they were. Also, another reason why she is that being an old lady, people confided in her or didn't realize that she was actually extremely smart (and nosey..in a good way). Just can't see it translating well, unless the actress was an older person, just in the present time.

If they really want to do A. Christie, why don't they do Tommy and Tuppence? That would be more in line with the age of the actress.

Sounds like an idea best left to die on the vine. Morphing Miss Marple into a character that Jennifer Garner could play without doing 2 hours in a makeup chair every day seems like it would obliterate the character of Miss Marple.

Why buy the character rights, gut it into something that doesn't at all resemble the original character, and then develop a script around it? Why not just write a new character/script? I mean, it's not like the character is going to resonate with the target audience. And those that are "attached" to the character are going to be put off by the "re-imagining".

Am I missing something here?
