Disney to close nightclubs at Pleasure Island

I just heard that Kevin Lansberry has been in the AC preventing people from handing out literature to save the club. People are trying to get the word out about it closing and he is trying to stop them! I only hope I see the day he gets fired for what he is doing

Where did you hear this?

I got a phone call 2 days ago from someone at WDW... I did not catch his name, he had a very refined voice, and sounded like he was from the UK... This was after I got the canned email reply like the one *NikkiBell* got. I replied to that one with an email that stated that it would sound a LOT more like they really cared if it wasn't so canned, and also automated..maybe like they even read the emails we send. So I guess that I hit a note with some one.
When I sent the second email I told them that I woudl be pleased to take them up on the "9 holes of golf" and that I was looking forward to a free golf lesson for me, and the other 9 members of my family that have PAPs. Also we would like to know what type of clubs they woudl be offering us for free use, and if a CM would be along with a grounds crew to fix the holes I will be making when I attempt to hit the golf ball. Along with a few dozen other bits, like we would not be renewing the PAPs at this time and would advise others not to also. And while that is only about 15 to 20 people that we go down with it was nice for WDW they did not need our bussiness...
Anyway the CM that called me got an ear full. He was very, very aware that the DISboards had petions, and that there was a call in, and letter writting campain, I mean that PAIN! And I told him that I had asked all the college kids we go down to WDW to put the notice on FaceBook and MySpace and so on... After a longish phone call, 15-20 min, of mostly me complaining, and whinning about closing the AC, and a rant that if they really, really wanted to improve the DTD area to fix up DisneyQuest cause it sucks now,PLUS a note that my family gets into Universial St. for free, and VIP passes, but up till NOW were willing to PAY $$$ to go to WDW (DHs is a friend of the guy that was the PM that built IOA, we walk on all the rides..)he said that they were considering a discount for PAP renewals... I told him to sent it to me in writing, and I would believe it when/if it happened. And that I knew he had several hundred more calls to make and it was his job to try and make me feel better and it was NOT working....
So for what it is worth, anyone else get a phone call this week? And if so did the CM tell you that there MIGHT be a discount on PAPs? Or was this just a bit of BS to try and make me feel better and keep going down and spending $$$$$$ there?

Kevin Lansberry himself has been going to AC to stop people from handing out literature? Somehow I doubt this. Besides the word is already out. It's right on Disney's website. It isn't like it's a secret.

No idea if this helps... the number the CM called me from is 407-560-7315...And I got the call on Tue,July 22 about 10am.
If we can't hand out info at the AC to try and save it, how about T shirts that we could wear to the parks and at DTD? they coudl say some thing like
"SAVE the AC" in large letters and then Adventures Club forced closure 9/08 thanks to Disney Corp. ? We would prob. all be forced off site.... but white Tshirts are cheap in a pack, and sharpies would work... put a brown paper bag inside of the shirt so it doesn't blead ink from front/back....just a (bad?) idea...

Sorry, forgot this...
I also asked the CM if they had considered changing the place the AC was. Like to the BC boardwalk behind ECPOT? He said they considered that the existing clubs there would pick up the people that went to AC. I asked which ones? He said like Jellyrolls... which I have never been to, but dunderstand is totally different then AC....Anyway, I also said then relocate the club ANY where else onsite, it isn't like you don't have enought land to do so... didn't get a reply to that! He did finally tell me that it was a done deal, and that Disney had many exciting changes in the next 2 years where PI was/is now. And I said I could shop anyplace, and was tired of fake animals that were never chaning, with no human involved. He also said the decision was final, and he was very sorry, but it woudl not change, and "we at WDW hope that this would not detier us from a future visit", which I said it would, and has...

I'm not zulemara, obviously, but I heard something similar. The person I heard it from was actually approached by 2 manager types (in suits, not uniforms) who told her she couldn't hand out her business cards, even to people who asked her for info, because it would negatively impact guest experiences.

They did tell her that they weren't the conversation police and they couldn't stop her from telling people who wanted to know about the efforts to save the Club, she just couldn't distribute literature.

WaltD4Me - I have heard several people say Lansberry was involved, but the only people who I've talked to who were there at the time didn't mention him, so that may just be a rumor or he may have approached other people but not the one I talked to. As for it not being a secret, I don't think it's so much that the Club is closing that they don't want discussed - it's the efforts to save it. I was there last weekend and it was really weird - a girl who posted a "Save the Club" video online came in and a couple of minute later a couple of manager types came in. They stood upstairs and watched her and when someone downstairs started videotaping something (not the girl) one of them came down and made him stop taping. The girl wasn't there the next night and neither were the manager types. I assume they were afraid she was going to start taping another "Save the Club" video, but she wasn't.

Idofabric - As far as the decision being final - nothing's ever final! As much as I hate to think it, I doubt that our efforts will save the Club in its present location. The lakefront property is just too valuable. However, there is always a chance that they could reopen the Club elsewhere on premises if there is enough demand for it. I'm sure that the DTD folks just want this all to go away - they don't want their decisions to be questioned and it's easier for them if they just tell everyone that the decision will not change so that everyone will just give up and forget about it. If they said there was a chance in the future then people would continue their efforts and the DTD folks don't want that!

I heard the information about Kevin L from the same source who told me the clubs would all be closing before they actually did.

No, it is not a secret, but you're right, they want to sweep any kind of campaign under the rug. Most of you probably didn't notice, but one day PI closing was front page news for the Orlando Sentinnel and the next day you had to do a search to even find the article. They released the info on a Friday hoping to have everything calmed down by Monday and they released something else at the same time(don't remember what) to detract from the PI article.

I have a huge emotional attachment to anywhere in PI that makes me laugh or plays music(that would exclude motion and BET:lmao: ) but to me, the issue here is much much deeper than closing the clubs. It's the fact that they're getting rid of profitable unique things in favor of 3rd party restaurants. It's a horrible horrible problem and it's only getting worse! Don't say you can get disco and techno anywhere because I live in the city with the most consecutive bars on one street and the world's largest six pack and I can't even find a CLUB nonetheless a place that plays all 70s+80s or techno

Then of course theres the whole fact that they have wanted to close these clubs for the last 5 years and have made decisions to cause attendance to decline so they can justify closing them(Kevin L would be the one in charge of this)

Walt said he did things in house because we can do it better. Apparently no one thinks that anymore at WDW :confused3

There are alot of shirts on cafepress heres an example of one.
