Disney to close nightclubs at Pleasure Island

Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Disney will be closing the 6 night clubs at Pleasure Island on Sep 27. Story at:

The article didn't list all of the closures. Will they be closing the Adventurer's Club? I was planning on going there in December. I have never been there before. I would hate to miss it.

There are only six night clubs on pleasure island - according to this article it sounds like they are closing every nightclub. That is a shame - I love the comedy club and advetures club. I am going down in September, so I'll be sure to go there for one last time.

The six clubs there are:
8 Trax
Adventures Club
BET Soundstage
Mannequins
Motion
Comedy Wharehouse

This is a major bummer

I am really ticked because I have 19 plus options left on non-expiring tickets. Disneyquest is not my thing and I could never use 19 water park visits in my lifetime. Now their saying you can use them for golf- great, IF you like golf.

From some of the comments I've heard the podcast crew make and what the article says - I think it's attracting the 'wrong' crowd. I liked it better when they had the big stage in the back.

I would suspect that Disney is doing this because they believe they can serve a larger audience by building a family friendly area in place of Pleasure Island.

They may be right.

There's always City Walk at Universal.

I bet that it has something to do with Disney appealing mroe towards the younger population (kids). I mean Pleasure Island really has nothing for kids to do there, it's more or less a place for adults to go and party. Which is nice.

seriously, my heart is broken for losing the AC, I dont even know what to say. i dont even wanna think the one night I went to the AC with my DBF will be the last he joked about proposing there, in the treasure room, since the ring could be the treasure and everyone could get into it how cute....

now to never be im so so upset

They're not planning on just putting different clubs there.
I think they're going to put their stupid Night Animal Kingdom/Discovery Cove knock-off in there based on the FAQ which states that the plus options no longer include admission.

I heard a rumor (or read it, don't remember....) that AC will be re-locating to AK. I think it would be a good fit, really.

I haven't done it yet but DH and I will have to be sans kids before we can venture there....

The AC at AK would be actually pretty cool, it would fit so well but then AK would have to stay open later.... cuz I cant imagine going to the AC during the day...

Sorry guys, I'm going to be the lone voice of descent here. I'm glad to see them go, with the exception of the Adventurers Club. Hopefully they relocate the AC. For my family the rest of PI was pretty much a waste of space. I'm excited to see what they bring in.

I understand what you are saying, but the entire rest of Disney is for families and kids. I didn't think there was anything wrong with having an adult location, with adult clubs and places to go without kids.

I also have a feeling that this is going to be more outsourcing, not Disney doing things there, but just leasing the spaces and collecting the cash.

When we go to Las Vegas we will go all out for nightlife, bottle table service at clubs lounges etc but the couple of times we did go to the clubs at Pleasure Island we did not enjoy them. On more than one occassion there were like 10 to 20 people in a club that was HUGE dancing in a circle by themselves on a SAT night! I dont think disney makes a huge profit with their clubs and I think that is one of the bigger reasons why they are closing down.

My fiance and I love to party but after a long day in Disney most times we are just to pooped to make it to pleasure island we usually stay at one of the epcot resort and just go to jellyrolls and that is always a blast!

I am one of those people that will not be sad to see the clubs go in pleasure island and look forward to see what Disney has up its sleeve for that area! I dont go to Disney looking for good nightlife I go to disney for a family fun atmosphere..when i want good nightlife i go to vegas or go out somewhere in ny.

I think its funny how all these threads are popping up saying "save the clubs in pleasure island"...when I have not seen a thread existing about any of the nightlife there in FOREVER...with maybe the exception of the AC

i truly feel that disney will come up with a better solution..but i would be pretty mad if i had plus options left and I was told i could use them for golf!!! i hate to golf so what good would that do me!
