Disney sued?

I also hate the position that the lawsuit puts Disney in, merited or not. Disney is really in a damned if you do situation with t, IMO. Either they fight the lawsuit and come off as "Disney hates autistic children and their families and wants to make their trips awful", or they don't fight it and just give in, which will set a precedent for many other businesses.

I imagine it's a PR nightmare on Disney's part.

I don't know. I'm sure they aren't happy about it, but from comments on all the articles and blogs it seems like the public in general finds this lawsuit proposterous and can see it for what it is.

I'll disagree with Campbellz that sometimes special treatment is warranted (aside from MAW and things like that), but that's my opinion. If it's given, great. No one is entitled to it like he lawsuit people believe (and that's actually part of the argument they're using).

If you read what I wrote I just said special treatment in the way that we go out of our way to make them feel like everyone else - withou the stares, laughter, or pointing some rude guests can do. That's I meant.

We should do everything we possibly can to make sure that equal treatment is provided...and you know some sometimes those with handicaps DO deserve a bit more special treatment, and that to make is making them feel exactly the same as everyone else.

I think I get what you mean, though your wording in the top post is confusing. To me, "special treatment" is just that -- something special. Not something that makes one equal to others; something that doesn't or couldn't occur for everyone. Maybe "extra courtesy or kindness" is better wording for what you mean...?

If everyone packed their manners and common courtesy, it wouldn't matter if somebody has a disability as they'd be treated the same as the next person. Unfortunately, neither Disney nor the ADA have control over whether other guests are polite and there will always be rude people in the world.

That I can agree with.

But that's not what I gathered from reading your first post.

Sad commentary on the world if not staring at, laughing at, or pointing at people is considered special treatment.
