Disney store vs. Disneyland shopping??

the stores often carry the same merchandise as far as character t-shirts and hats and stuff go (you won't find park specific stuff). we always check out the local stor before going on a trip. in fact my wife found the jack sparrow pirate hats that normally go for like 30 bucks at the park for like 4 bucks on clearance so she bought a couple of them since my sons love that hat.

They sometimes have the same, sometimes not. They both carried the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cash register at Yuletime. Their merchandise seems to change...I tell you, I am seeing why people like web-phones more and more...would love to be in a Disney Store (which is an hour or more away from me) and check if it's online for cheaper, LOL...

Like Bumbershoot said, some of the stuff in the stores is the same as in the parks, but much of it is NOT the same. I can tell you that most of my best Disney knick-knacks and collectibles over the years have been theme park exclusives and could not be found in the Stores or online. The Disney Store has had some good things over the years, but I have found some real gems in the parks, so that is why I always at least like to skim the shops in DLR quickly so that I can see if anything is calling out to me - because if I don't get it right then and there, it probably will not be there again the following year! They are very clever about making so much of their stuff limited edition or exclusive, so that it compels people to buy these things or risk never finding them again - which has also happened to me!

I've also found that Disney Store clothes runs VERY very big, while the clothes purchased at the theme parks are pretty true to size. (Well, adult sizes at least.)

They have similar items but they are not the same. You might find a random thing here or there that is like something from the park but ask yourself this...Why would I spend money to go to a Disney park when I can buy the same exact thing at my local mall? Disney knows this and like Sherry said...they have a lot of things you can only get in the park. So although they may both have mickey tshirts they will not be the same shirt.

we were told by more than one CM that the majority of merchandise found at Disneyland is exclusive to the park and not sold anywhere else....

Hmmm...

I asked because I want to buy DD some flip flops. The Disney store was out of her size but they do have them online. I also want to buy DS the birthday Mickey ears but I believe those need to come from DL. I was hoping I had a chance of finding the flip flops at DL so I could just have them shipped together and save a little bit on shipping.

You could always call the Disneyland DelivEARS number and ask them if they carry those. Give them a detailed description of the flip-flops and they will be able to tell you. They are usually very good at knowing what exactly is sold in the parks and in which stores you might find it. If one store is sold out, they can put you on hold and call another store in DLR to see if they carry it.
