I wanted to get our daughter her own Disney gift card for our upcoming trip. They sell them at the Disney store, and I was wondering if you can use them anywhere in the park - stores and restaurants in particular. Does anyone know? Thanks.

As far as I know you can use them pretty much everywhere inside WDW except at a few small snack carts and you may not use them at your resort.

Hi! I got one for my last trip and didn't put too much on it because I was worried about it not being accepted everywhere. I wish I put more money on it! It was so convenient and it always shows the balance on the bottom of the receipt. I used mine at the Wilderness Lodge merchantile as well as in the parks with no problem. I work in a Disney Store and wanted to test it out so I can explain it to our guests better. :sunny:

I just told my DH last night, when he asked what I wanted for Christmas, that I would like a Disney gift card that I could use at WDW but I didn't know if you could buy them except at WDW. Am I understanding correctly that the gift cards you buy at The Disney Store can be used at WDW? Can you buy them through disneyshopping.com too?

Thanks!

You can buy them behind the cash wrap at a Disney Store. You can also put whatever dollar amount you want on it up to $1500.00. We had a guest that started with a small amount and kept bringing back her card every couple of weeks to add even more more to it. This worked out great for her too! I was very happy with the Disney gift card and I'll definately be using it again. :goodvibes

I got one when they first came out - May, I think - and added to it each week before our August trip. I had no trouble using it at shops and restaurants, but at that time the resorts were not online to use the gift cards to pay room charges.

I have read several posts lately that indicate the resorts now DO accept the gift cards for room charges. The plan all along was for the resorts to accept the cards in "Fall 2006" but there wasn't a specific date mentioned.

Our card was empty after that August trip, but I have loaded it back up for our trip in 20 days!

If you are familiar with the Scrip program (That is for non-profit organizations selling gift cards for face value - except a percentage goes to the not for profit organization), they now sell Disney! I'm planning on buying enough to pay for our tickets, resorts, and food. We should get back a couple hundred toward's the organization. Good deal!

That has now changed according to the Disney website...

Ok, sorry about the wrong info. I hadn't heard about that yet! Super cool!

We have the scrip program for our dd's gymnastics program and they have the new Disney gift cards with 7% back to the organization. Here is what is on their website:

Disney Gift Cards are now available in $25, $100, and $1000 denominations at a 7% discount.

Designed for maximum flexibility, the Disney Gift Card can be utilized for most everything Disney! Whether it be a once-in-a-lifetime vacation experience at the Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida or the Disneyland® Resort in California, the Disney Gift Card can be used to purchase complete vacation packages or select elements, including hotel stays, theme park admission, recreation, tours, merchandise and dining.

Set sail with Disney Cruise Line® and use the Disney Gift Card for vacation packages and for payment toward on-board charges.

The Disney Gift Card can also be used for purchases at over 300 Disney Store locations in the U.S. and online at DisneyShopping.com.

This is working out great for us as we are all going to Disney for a meet in Jan.

And they just came out with a new holiday gift card! It's very cute with Mickey and a sparkly snowman and snowflakes on it. The original one is still available too.

Can you please give me a link to find out how to do this. I am a dance teacher and my students dance in Disney every year, and we have a parents association that is non-profit. This would be a great fundraiser!

Ayuh, I did the same thing for my December trip - made a pilgrimage to the Disney Store every two weeks to add some money to my gift card. Going to add some more after work tonight, in fact.

I am eager to use this new card at WDW.

Everyone remember: KEEP THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE RECIEPT AND TAKE IT TO WDW WITH YOU! These new gift cards can be replaced if you lose them, just like lost park passes or room keys. All you need is the original purchase reciept (a reload reciept is not good enough). So like your park passes, keep the reciept in a different location from the gift card in case you lose the card.

I just got a gift card for our upcoming trip.. i put $500 on it for all our food! I figured this would be a better way than having to remember cash all the time! I love these cards!
