I was just browsing around the Disney Store website and I noticed they had gift boxes you can buy for $1.25 for one. They look exactly like the boxes they give you at the Disney Store for free...so, I'm wondering, is the Disney Store charging for gift boxes now? Anyone been to a store lately? I'm amazed they are selling them on the website, but could they actually be charging for them now at the store too? And for $1.25 yet, they are cute but flimsy, plus I can't think of any store that charges for gift boxes.

You've always had to purchase them in the UK.

I love the mickey head sequins though! :goodvibes

I haven't worked there in years but ... its about time. Helps control those who want extra boxes.

In the UK Disney stores the are now charging 5p for plastic carrier bag:confused3 and the gift boxes are around $2 (£1.50)

Yeah, I've seen people ask for extra boxes and they only purchased one little thing, but if you buy something, you should be able to get a gift box. And if they just HAVE to charge for them  $1.25 is ridiculous. I could maybe understand 50 cents, but not really, the boxes are free advertising for the store. Anyone know of any other stores that are charging for boxes now?

Yep, we have to pay for everything  Although I got a really cute re-usable UP bag for £1.50 - saved 5p on a carrier bag ;)

I saw this last weekend. Bath & Body Works is charging as well. I think it's ridiculous.

Wait a minute.........they are charging for the BAG?!?! You mean the normal bag they put your stuff in??????????? No way. Do they ask you or just charge you for it?

A lot of stores charge for boxes now... I think if you buy a gift you should be able to get an appropriately sized box for free. Especially since, as someone said, it basically is advertising for the store anyway.

A lot of shops do it to be 'eco-friendly', they try and encourage bringing your own canvas bags with you, even to the mall (which I am trying to do more and more). So yes, they sell you even the plastic bags so not only do they make more profit, they are also the good guys!

Although the quality of the plastic bag usually rises with the price!

I am happy with this charge. Encourages everyone to use reuseable bags :thumbsup2

Wow. That's something. I never heard of that. So, do you have to plan what size canvas bag to bring? Do you bring more than one if you are say, Christmas shopping and plan to buy alot? I know that probably sounds dumb, but a couple weeks ago I walked out of the mall with 3 big bags of stuff, don't know what I would have done if I just had a little canvas bag with me.

Personally, I don't mind paying $1.25 for a nice gift box.

Sure, I'd prefer them to be free, but I don't mind paying a little extra to have the present look extra nice.

I have actually paid for nice gift boxes, the thick cardboard kind with the nice fitted lids, but the Disney boxes aren't at all like that. They are flimsy and most of the time collapse, they don't like to stay in box shape. And like I said I can sort of understand charging for the box, but 50 cents is much more reasonable. $1.25 is absolutely ridiculous. But once again, Disney goes from free to $1.25, like with DVC parking, from free to the full $12.

I used to work at Talbot's Kids and once people found out our boxes were free (and saw the great job we did wrapping things up), they were more than willing to dump out their days purchases from other stores and ask us to wrap those up as well. I am NOT joking.

Doesn't surprise me in the LEAST that businesses charge for boxes.

Not all shops do it, I don't know of any clothes shops that do. If you want to buy something that doesn't fit in one of your bags, you just have to spend the 5p (8 cents maybe) more to have the plastic bag.

Most people don't object.

I'm sure the Co-Op tried to charge over 10p per bag :scared1: I like that you get green Clubcard points/Nectar points but surely if they charge 5p or so you should get the equivalent back?

I tend to take bags with me when out shopping, you get a few funny looks but at least the bags aren't gonna break!

I've seen a lot of dept stores where you have to take your receipt to customer service to get boxes. They mark your receipt that you've recieved boxes, that way you only get boxes for your actual purchases.

Like with most things, it's usually the people that take advantage of free stuff that make things harder for the rest of us. That Talbots example is mind boggling. I totall believe it, but the nerve of some people :confused3
