The dissolution of RCID gives Disney a bogey man to point at when they cut back on infrastructure maintenance and new development. They pay taxes to Orange and Osceola counties right now, as well as going through some amount of oversite on safety and standards. That won’t change. What will change is how fast they can add a new ride, new hotel, or new road. And I’d pretty much bet a fifth gate is out the window.
Sea World and Universal know the ropes, and build planning delays into their marketing. Disney will learn to do the same. But this gives Disney a few years of breathing room before we can expect anything new.
All and all, financially this looks like a win for Disney and a big loss for Orange and Osceola counties.
