Has anyone ever purchased one share of Disney stock as a gift?
I am thinking about doing this for my nieces and nephews for Christmas this year. Is there a website that has reasonable fees? (I tried oneshare.com and it would be $39 + the stock price for each gift - that seems high to me.) Sorry if this has been discussed before. I tried using the search function but it is not working now.
TIA :)

With onestock.com you are more paying for the framing/handling fees. I doubt you could just purchase 1 share of any stock from anyplace else without some sort of fee attached, plus getting a single share issued would be another whole ball of wax.

I have a friend who ordered from onestock for their kids for xmas and they are very pleased with the framing etc. Makes a nice gift and a nice presentation.

Just FYI I received stock as a gift so I can say it's pretty and would look nice framed on the wall.

Stock: Disney (Walt) Holding Co.
Frame Finish: n/a
Stock Price: $18.00
Frame Price: $0.00
Certificate Shipping Fee: $5.00
OneFee: $39.00
Subtotal: $62.00 for this item

This is the price with no frame. Isn't oneshare a board sponsor? I will look around and see if I can find a link somewhere. I think last weekend they were running a special and they had a code for 10% off the OneFee a 3.90 discount (my edit).

If you are only interested in 1 share, Oneshare is about the cheapest/best way I have found to purchase 1 share of stock as a gift.
There are cheaper ways to purchase, but it would involve buying more than 1 share and there is definately more hassle.

The cheapest way I can think of buying Disney Stock is to go directly to Disney and sign up for the direct purchase option--this would involve a minimum 1,000 investment and a $10.00 fee to set up the account. Once done, you could transfer ownership of stock in certificate form to your loved ones--(I believe there is a $10 fee for this...don't quote me as I haven't looked lately). Since you originally have the stock in your name, there would also be tax consequences if you realized a gain or loss on your basis from the time you purchased the stock to the time you transferred ownership...

Another way would be to establish a brokerage account, but then you have the broker's commission and fees. (A lot of places which I have dealt with have a fee equal or more than what oneshare charges to get the share in certficate form)......

edited to include the following: It looks like I may have seen the link for the discount on OneShare on Mary's Mousesavers.com site. I couldn't find any links on this board....

I ordered one share for my then girlfriend now wife for Christmas last year through Oneshare. It took a WHILE to get the share. I seem to remember only having 1 or 2 days to spare when I received it and I ordered in early November. Email them for assurances that you will receive your stock in time for Christmas.

BTW, I'm looking at the stock as I'm typing this :D

Thanks for all the responses. We do own Disney stock, so I may look into it from that angle - hadn't even thought of that.
And thanks for the heads-up that it may take a while if we do decide to go through oneshare. I will keep that in mind if I go that route.
I knew I'd get some good ideas from these boards!

I just transferred a share of Disney stock and it didn't cost me any fee. You can also find discount codes for oneshare on many sites. I recently saved nine bucks on a share purchase. It eneded up being what my broker would have cost me, but I purchased it through a reward site so I got back $. Oneshare can be slow. Transferring is cheaper, faster and my recipient still got a certificate (which is what I really wanted).
