My family and I are flying in on Christmas Day, and rather waste one of our tickets on a park, we thought we could spend the half day at Disney Springs. www.DisneySprings.com. My question for people is, what is it like on Christmas Day? Are most of the shops/events/activities open and /or running? (We will be staying off site.)

It will be a jam-packed, crowded madhouse. We went during Christmas week 2015 and after experiencing all 4 parks and DS that trip, I swore, if we ever went back that week, I would avoid MK and DS. They literally had tape on the walkways to create "lanes" so people would stay on the right-hand side while walking and CM's out directing pedestrian traffic. We had dinner and saw a movie there and then got the heck out. It was SO crowded. Honestly, if you would like to visit WDW that evening and don't have park tickets, I would consider going to the Boardwalk for the evening. Just be prepared to either pay for valet parking or even ubering over. We stayed at BWI that year and the Boardwalk was quite pleasant on Christmas night as it wasn't as jam-packed as the parks or DS. I would just, personally, avoid anything around MK or DS that evening.

Oh dear, I would avoid that area like I would avoid plague. It is going to be CROWDED> If I was to leave my resort or hotel. I agree, I would go to the Boardwalk.

Orlando does not close anything during the holidays, Everything at DS will be open. I am one of the crazy people that actually doesn't mind crowds, I like going to DS and the parks during this time of year. Yes it will be crowded but if you just want some place to walk around and take in some festive atmosphere it's a good place to go.
I don't like the Boardwalk because there really isn't anything to do, only one store and then some restaurants, also during the holiday weeks they will not allow anyone to park there (or any other resorts) unless you have a dinning reservations, so DS will be the easiest to park at. Just be aware that traffic might be crazy, especially after 3pm
