As a DVC member, are we still eligible for Disney's special offers such as the free dining plan if it comes around at the time of your trip?

You can take advantage of Disney offers just not with a DVC stay. You would need to cancel your stay on points and book the package that offers the program you are interested in.

Hi, were new to the whole DVC, so I don't know how things work. One of our friends has been a members since 2001, and I believed he has said before that you can get discounts off of your food bills, is that true?

Also can you buy the dining plan yourself if you stay with points?

You definitely can purchase a DDP when staying onsite with your points. As far as food discounts, hmmmm I'm not sure.:confused3

Most food discounts, simply by virtue of the DVC membership is in the 10% to 15% range, occasionally a non-Disney operated restaurant will offer a better percentage discount.

Many discounts are for lunch/weekdays only.

However, if you purchase a DVC discounted Annual Pass, you may also purchase the Tables in Wonderland card that gives 20% almost all table service dining, except on specific major holidays.

There are some restaurants that give a small DVC discount on lunch during the week.

But, if you buy an AP (which many DVC members do), you can buy the Tables in Wonderland Card (TIW) and that will give you 20% off many meals. This isn't a DVC perk but one many take advantage of because they visit WDW enough to make an AP work.

Even though we visit WDW once per year right now, we still buy the AP and just go 51 weeks apart so we get two trips out of one pass.

You can add the dining plan to your points reservation.

You are still eligible to book on cash at rack rate with a ticket purchase to qualify. On points no. We have done this at the beginning of a trip then moved over to DVC and upgraded our tickets to APs.

Make a DVC reservation for sale period. You should also book a room at a value resort for four people. Sometimes these rooms are on sale for $80

Check in at the Value and pick up your Key To The World Card with dining plan and entrance tickets included. Then never stay there.

Then go to your DVC resort reservation and enjoy yourselves. This is not cheating because you have paid for your value room.

Remember that the value resorts have been getting only the QS dining plan free most of the time this year. You would have an additional cost to upgrade to the standard plan. The upgrade cost would likely cancel any benefit of using this scheme.

So you could get free dining WITH a room discount? I thought it was usually one or the other. If so, can you ever get a discounted moderate room during free dining?

You either get free dining or a room discount, not both. I believe also that it has been mentioned that if housekeeping sees that a room has been reserved but it is obvious that no one is staying there, they will notify the front desk and it becomes a big issue. I do not suggest booking a room you don't intend on using to try to take advantage of a Disney deal. There are plenty of families that would want that room and the offer that would come with it.
