Disney set to invest $17B in Florida parks, opening door for 5th theme park

Awww, I like that idea Zackiedawg! I don't know if they'd really do it, but if they did, I would enjoy going on some of those rides!

I think if the new park would have a theme, it would have to be broad enough to encompass a variety of attractions but also be something that appeals to kids. You could say the current parks were originally themed to fairy tales, movies, animals, and the future . . . what else do kids like?

Personally, I'd want an all-Star Wars park where you can visit several different planets, but I don't think they would actually do that lol.

Maybe a Pixar-themed park? There could be an Inside Out land with a coaster where the cars are memories and they travel through the brain. A Coco land where the whole environment is themed to the Land of the Dead. Elemental would lend itself well to a themed land, too.

Or they could give proper attention to big properties like Frozen and Moana and give those their own lands.

Gonna be real, current Disney is not funding that. IF Florida got something similar to Disneysea, it would 100% be a budget cut version.

There's money to do it, imo. Priorities need to change on where its spent.

They won't spend the money; that's the issue. Look at how budget cut Galaxy's Edge was.

That's not a fair comment. I merely expressed a thought as to what I might like. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was/is a great movie, and lends itself to park attractions - Vulcania, the Nautilus, giant squids, etc.

Sorry - that was a tongue in cheek comment. Lots of people post here on the boards about how there is too much IP in the parks. Whatever that means.

The train CM at Tianas said it be lucky to open mid June because we "share" construction workers with Universal. Which I'm sure is true, just seemed weird to hear from a CM.

Either way, things would probably move quicker at WDW after Epic.

I want them to expand the current parks and install an in-park transportation system. An air-conditioned, underground tube going from one land to another would be marvelous. Add in some subterranean shops or rides and I'll never resurface.

My dream 5th park is one that would never ever happen - but we're allowed to dream, so there.

I want a park of all the rides that have been closed/removed that I loved growing up. Mr Toad's, Swan Boats, Keelboats, 20,000 Leagues subs, Skyway, original Land of Motion, Horizons, and World of Energy, original Journey into Imagination, Maelstrom, If You Had Wings, Great Movie Ride, Backlot tour. Stick the Adventurer's Club there too for good measure - need a fun bar/restaurant.

I know that 5th park would probably only be visited by me and a handful of others, but I'd ride more rides there than any other park.

Sounds like a great plan! I'm on board with this.

Yep. I hate IP in the parks. Mainly due to how they currently do it. I'm not against IP but not a fan of shoe horning it in places it doesn't fit. EPCOT looking at you.

To add to that, I would love if they actually did some high thrilling rides to each park. Something like a Velocicoaster

Many of the construction workers are contracted and are not Disney employees. They aren't "shared" but they're just contracted workers who work on different projects. That's what contracted workers do. Sometimes CM give their opinion or speculation about things they know nothing about.

Agreed, however I still think things will pick up for WDW after Epic concludes.

Under the agreement with the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, Disney said it would spend at least $8 billion at the resort over a decade with a total of $17 billion invested over 10 to 20 years.

This says to me that the 5th park is a go. Why else would they commit to "at least $8b" in the next ten years?

MK and AK projects are going to cost a lot of money on their own and they might have other projects planned. For reference, I know it's a different country but Fantasy Springs was a two billion dollar project. Galaxy's Edge cost one billion. Guardians was just a coaster build and that was 500 million.
