Hello Everyone!

Greetings from lovely Western NY.

Since a few of my Disboard friends have posts on here, I figured I'd create one too. So here is my story....

Once upon a time.... wait.... wrong story. :rotfl2:

This September my family & I (Dad, Mama, Brother & 2 cousins) will be going to Disney to celebrate family, life, surviving & the magic that is Disney.

A little background on my family... My whole family are Disney lovers. The characters, the parks, the magic... all of it. Growing up, our family made the trip to Disney twice, the last trip being in 1993.

Two years (on my brother's birthday in November) ago we found out my mom had very rapidly growing form of breast cancer. She had several surgeries over the next few weeks including the days leading up to Christmas & a few days after Christmas.

As a Christmas gift my Dad gave our family a "guide" to Disney book to help us plan our dream vacation. He said that the cancer was a wake up call to get out & "make memories" with our family. He said some of the best memories he ever had with us were at Disney (including my parents honeymoon to Disney in September of 1977).

After the holidays, the surgeries, chemo and radiation took it's toll on my mom. She was physically beat and mentally worn out but never let it show. She stayed so strong through the whole thing and swore that good things would come of it. On days where she was exhausted, I would convince her to watch movies with me which introduced her to newer Disney movies (like Nemo & Monsters Inc) as well as the "classics" (like her favorite, Beauty & The Beast). We would watch movies all weekend and she would rest.

The cancer also took a toll on my parents financially making our dream trip unattainable. They had originally wanted to go for their 30th wedding anniversary but were unable afford the trip. They planned to save up money and go the following year but due to the cancer, it made it once again impossible to go.

My mother is since a cancer survivor thanks to all the wonderful doctors & nurses we met along the way. Her hair is finally growing back & she is getting back to being her normal energetic self.

Due to very fortunate circumstances, I was able to visit Disney twice last year with friends. When I came home from my trips to tell my parents how amazing Disney is, I could tell deep down it bothered them. I know they were happy I was able to have such incredible experiences but I know they would have loved to be with me. I think it hurt my Dad the most, knowing we couldn't afford it. His health isn't great either so this trip needs to be amazing for him too!

After coming home from my December trip, I of course wanted to plan another one. After talking to my brother & two cousins, we decided to surprise them both with a visit this year, paid in full. My brother & cousins have been putting away money each week and I got a second job to ensure that it is totally paid for. Plus this wonderful little site called Ebay which is making a major dent in our trip debt.

We plan on surprising them for Easter. So far we have about 1/2 the money and will (hopefully) have the rest ready by Easter. We can not wait to see the look on their faces, especially when we tell them that the flight, hotel, tickets & food is all paid for!

I wanted to submit my story because quite frankly... I am Disney.

I was born & raised with Disney movies. I believe in magic and the goodness in people around me. I believe in the values and beliefs of Disney. Despite the people around me trying to sour my take on life, Disney gives me hope. I believe in happily ever after and that all you need to get by in life is a lil faith, trust and pixie dust.

Most of all... I believe that dreams do come true. I know mine will in September.

P.S. Sorry for the extreme corniness of thread. I turn into a sap when I talk Disney.

Anywho... actual trip info....
Stuff That Is DONE
  • Dates are set... September 12-19th.
  • Hotel is picked & confirmed... AKL with a Savannah view (yay!)
  • Decided on getting park hopper passes & the Disney dining plan so they literally will have no worries when it comes to affording this trip.

"To Do" List
  • We still need to book the flights (but are going to wait a few more weeks until they release more flights for that weekend
  • Buy the park tickets (which I'm not worried about at all)
  • Most important & my least favorite... paying for all of it. But we are doing good!

Over all I don't think I have ever been this excited in my life. My cousin & I talk just about every day because we can't contain it. Also because both of our brothers are just about sick of hearing us, ha ha.

I'll keep everyone updated on how our trips goes (I'm sure you all are hanging on the edges of your seats) and when we tell them I will post ASAP. Hopefully even have video!!!!

Hey lady! I just randomly found you and subbied! You need to ask an admin to move your report over to the Pre-Trip Report forum; you'll get a lot more comments!

I'm glad you started this, though. I can't wait to read along!

Thanks heather!

I did that & hopefully they will be able to move it.

You're wonderful <3

I am reading this and thinking how awesome you kids are to do this for your parents....that is something no one can ever take from you--memories...are the greatest treasures....I have a feeling I don't live too far from you...Please keep us posted on the rest of the planning...I know God will bless you abundantly....

Actually my Dad works in the Finger Lakes region, ha ha.

I'm really excited to be able to give my parents this amazing trip and have it be something we all will remember forever.

I went & bought a fantastic book today after a tip from a Disboarder (Passporters Guide to Disney) that has a spot to plan your trip. We are going to fill out the book & give that to them.

thanks for stopping by & I promise that I will continue posting :goodvibes

Mornin'!

Two of the other DISers (Jenn and Sophia - will be getting there on the 12th, too) are brainstorming about a meet over on my PTR. Please join in and let me know what you think!!

Your story made my tear up a little bit, i'm so glad you will be able to take your parents that is so sweet of you!

Hey, it's Sophia. I am here. :)

Thanks for sharing your story. That is so cool that you're going to surprise your parents with this trip!!!

Hopefully we can put together a meet!

I'm glad every one is enjoying my story. It feels good to be able to do this for them.

I hope we can get our meeting to happen. It would be nice to meet everyone!

So some trip updates here.....

On Saturday I met up with my cousin to get some more planning in. We actually met up with her brother (who is also going) to talk more about the trip.

We decided to book our flights on the 15th of March (when everyone will have money). We made some picks on restaurants.

I'm really excited. We decided to give my parents little gifts, leading up to the biggest one (the trip itself).

We picked up some Easter Eggs that had jelly beans inside & the outside were animal print!

We also decided to give them each cheap little kids binoculars & say something like... well since you guys are getting old & need to see. ha ha.

I also bought the most amazing book. PassPorters Guide To Disney. It's half guide & tip book. Half planner. I have been filling in all the info so when I give it to them it will have our hotel, flights & all that in it.

Any other fun ideas for gifts?

I just found your pre-trip report. I love what you are doing for your parents. We will be there the same time as you and your family. I received a pin code a few weeks ago for free dining and the cast member said that it should be released to the general public on the 1st of April. I hope that this is true and that you will be able to add this to your trip. It would help your expenses a lot. I just thought I would spread a little more hope your way! The dates we had to pick from were Aug. 16th - Oct. 1st and your trip fits those dates. I will keep an eye out for you and hope it works out! I can't wait to hear more of your trip details! :wizard:

Sounds like there are a bunch of us that are going to be there at the same time.

I think that the PassPorter Guide is a great idea. Have you considered Disney dollars? I am not sure how many of the Disney stores still have them (we do here in Ohio) but you can add a few of them as well. That should confuse them a bit!

Seriously, I think what you are doing for them is wonderful. :flower3:

I can't wait to meet you.

We are staying on DVC points so I don't think I can use free dining but if I could... that would be AMAZING. It would save a TON of money!

If you could keep me updated that would be fantastic! :goodvibes

In some very very sad news... they closed ALL the Disney stores in my area. The closest one is about 2 hours away. You have no idea how heart breaking it was to have them all close. The sales were amazing & I spent wayyyy too much money but there are no more Disney stores in Rochester. *sniff*sniff* :(

I think I have some Disney dollars from our first trip... I think I will dig those up & give them to him. Woo. Thanks for the awesome idea! :thumbsup2

And I can't wait to meet you too!!!!!:yay:

Bummer that they closed all of your Disney stores. :sad1: We still have three within a 50 mile radius. One very close but they are always running out of Disney dollars. I keep putting myself on a the list and they call me when they get them. Hmmm, I'll keep thinking about other things that you can get too. :)

I so wish that they'd get park hours out sooner than they do. It's making me crazy already. And I super hate that we have to wait for 90 days before we make our ADR's. Yeah...I am crabby this morning.

Guess who booked their flights yesterday????

Bet, you'll never guess... ha ha :lmao:

Sorry... little bit too excited right now. And a lil bit too much coffee... :surfweb:

We've been trying to figure out the cheapest way for us to go when it comes to the flights. I've been watching Jet Blue's site for about 2 months now & waiting. I've flown them every time & have been nothing but happy. I've been looking at their other weekend rates & figured Jet Blue might end up being out of out price range (the weekend before would have been almost $400 round trip a person!). We we figuring on paying around $200 for each person but adding taxes & baggage charges, I was expecting to pay around $250. Plus all the flights we were looking at had yucky transfers & long layovers.

So yesterday I got an email from Jet blue that they released the flights yesterday! So I went right to the site & looked at our dates.... We are getting DIRECT FLIGHTS (and NO baggage charges...yay for Jet Blue!) for... dun dun dun.... 165 a person!!!!

Thats WITH taxes & everything (well 165.20 but whatever):mickeyjum

I just about died & called my cousins & brother. We were planning to book our air on the 15th but I refused to let this wait! Each flight was the cheapest fare of the day & the only direct flights of the day as well!

I checked Jet Blue today & the flight prices have gone up (not a lot 185... but still up!) That's money I figure I can spend on Tink :tinker: stuff, ha ha.

I was very excited so I wanted to share that with everyone.

Hope all is well with everyone & thanks for reading :tink:

Wow, awesome on the flight deal! It's always a nice feeling to have flights booked. :goodvibes I hate waiting too long because I always fear that the prices will be too much and we won't be able to go!

What a wonderful pretrip story so far! I can't wait to read about your parents reaction. :goodvibes

Hey lady!! I'm back, finally!

So excited that you'll be telling your family, soon! I'm going to be thinking about you on Easter. You'll have to post pictures!!

AWESOME deal on the flights! I'm glad that worked out so well for you!!

How much is the passport book? I've seen it mentioned a few times and may have to go check it out. Do you really, really rec it? Or, should I save that $$ for WDW souvies? What do you think??

By the way, I've definitely got CM down for breakfast on the 13th! I'm not sure who all will actually be able to come, but I really hope your group can! So, please keep that idea in mind when you start working on your ADR plans!! I really hope to meet you before we leave that day!

I don't mind making the ADR since I'll be able to before ya; so keep me updated and I'll be more than happy to do it on the day I can call!
