Yay! I finally went and made a commitment. A little nervous but hey, it's all good. I opened a savings account at our employee credit union and now they will be taking a chunk every pay day. I budgeted and did list after list of bills and budgets and finally decided on the highest amount I felt comfortable with and took the plunge. This is my mad money for my Disney trips and then savings for whatever other big ticket items I want, like a Mustang GT, a travel trailer, and trips galore! It's hard for DH to tell me no to a huge purchase when I already have the cash on hand and it doesn't affect our budget. Now I kick myself for not doing this before but I didn't think we had the extra room in our budget. Then after deciding it was like having kids or any other huge event in life, if I waited until I could afford it, I would never have accomplished anything. So now, I can have fun really planning and dreaming of Disney trips that I know are going to happen, God willing, as finances will no longer be an issue. :cool1:

It's always more enjoying when you know you can pay cash for something, rather than charge and hope you can pay for it later. Congrats & keep saving.:goodvibes

I love the feeling of paying off my Disney vacations and knowing they are paid for in full and I dont have to worry about it anymore. Congrats on starting up a savings account. Hopefully it will yield many Disney trips in the years to come! :cheer2:

I love having Disney money budgeted out and all paid for before trip date nears. We have done that in the past and it has meant a whole lot more trips for us!

Congrats!! We've paid for all our Disney trips in cash before the trip begins and we enjoy ourselves so much more knowing that we won't have a horrific cc bill when we get home!

I have a Disney account also. It is automatically taken out of my paycheck so that helps.

I know! I'm so excited. Always before we had our bank take some from our checking and put it in our savings, and then I just put aside bits of cash here and there in an envelope and it took me years to save cash and prepay for a big trip like WDW, because we would "dip" into our savings for things we needed. Like tires for the car. Graduation. Traveling expenses. A new amp when the old one had a blow out. I did this so I can't just take a twenty (or a hundred) out of the envelope and vow to replace it later :rolleyes1 Later doesn't seem to ever come for one reason or another.

I have always kept a envelope of money and it never works out as a good savings technique. I have been putting off opening a savings account but perhaps it is time to put my own budget into motion and start making some savings. Thanks for the motivation to save money :thumbsup2

I was thinking I might try an envelope plan but I was afraid it might no be that effective. I might give it a try first. My goal would be to save about half of the cost of a WDW trip. We do take cheapo trips so it might not be too hard. yea right....

Hi everyone, I'm new here! However, I'm tickled to say that I opened a Disney Savings Account the other day so that I can plan a vacation for October for my husband and I to celebrate our 10 year anniversary! I haven't told him yet as I want it to be a surprise come August when I have all the money together. :cool1:

We did the envelope last year for Disney. It worked great and we only took so much cash each day to the park. I had budget for every little thing such as tips and mouse keeping tips. Have fun saving.
