Disney Rose Parade Float

I saw a small blurb in the local paper that some folks objected to the Tower of Terror float by Disney for the Rose Parade. (the Tower of Terror opens in Disney's California Adventure in May.) It seems some people thought it was in poor taste and conjured up thoughts of the World Trade Towers. sheesh - can't we even use the word "tower" anymore? I recall some objection to the opening of Lord of the Rings - the Two Towers last year too. (that WAS the name of the second book after all.)

Are some people being too sensitive?

I didn't see the parade, but I had read about it some where.
I don't have a problem with it.

I thought the Disney float was very impressive. Although it wasn't a very beautiful float, one had to marvel at the engineering that went into it. It was also the tallest float in the history of the parade at almost 100 feet. The tower was on a hydraulic system because it had to fit under an over pass on the parade route. It was clearly a promotional strategy, like when they did a feature on the soon-to-open TOT at California Adventure during their Christmas Day parade (broadcast on their very own network, of course!) It probably never occurred to them that some people might associate it with the Twin Towers. It didn't occur to me, actually, until you mentioned it -- I just saw it as a blatant ad.

What struck me was all the other floats they seemed to have their hands in, playing Disney tunes or even more obvious like the Lion King float. I'll bet they approached these groups with money and engineering advice.

Never even put a connection in my head between ToT and WTC.

Sheesh ---- and I WAS AT MGM on 9/11......and had just EXISTED ToT when we heard about the attacks.

Sheesh ---- if I DIDN'T connect the two --- I must be SLOW!

Have no problem with the float.
