Hi

Has anyone been offered an upgrade? Or have you asked for one?

Was it free? Reduced? Or full price?

Just wondered because we have a room with standard view booked. Also have a AA card too.

Thanks

I've seen several CM's post over on the main Trip Planning board that if someone asks for an upgrade they catagorically won't get it (unless you're willing to pay for it).

When upgrades are offered without asking though, yes, they are free though they are definitely the exception rather than the rule. Basically, it boils down to a CM seeing a good reason or just being in the mood for splashing out with the good old Pixie Dust - they might not even mention it and you only find out when you get to your room!

I'd say be engaging and friendly with the person who's checking you in and make sure if you're celebrating something that it's noted on your room reservation...then who knows what might happen :)

Hi Julie

Yes we have been upgraded at GF - is that where you chose in the end?

In fact we were upgraded on 2 occasions at GF. First time was a Castle view and second time was a mini suite and we didnt pay for either occasion:thumbsup2

We never asked we were just polite and friendly.

We were upgraded from studio to 1 bed villa at SSR September last year, we didn't ask for it, just offered to us. Couldn't believe our luck! :goodvibes

But maybe it was a cunning way to get us to give them more money because when we go next year we are staying at OKW and we have to have a 1 bed villa now!

We have been upgraded a few times, not much usually just a standard room to a room with a view which is lovely. For our wedding we were upgraded to a gorgeous honeymoon room at GF.

All times we have just been polite and friendly - chatting to the CM etc.

I have been fortunate to get complimentary room upgrades (due to hotel overbooking!) but I would never ask for one t check in, if I wanted a nicer view etc I would rather book in advance to make sure I got it.

We got an upgrade at AKL to savannah view.

Didn't ask, just got.

I was willing to ask and pay though.

For our upcoming trip I'm booking all views/rooms we want though, so any upgrade will be a bonus, but very unlikely! If they do offer me the Walt Disney Suite I guess I'd accept :rotfl:

We managed to get 40 0/0 off at the poly. But why I azk is because some friends of ours are staying at the Yacht Club in a standard room, they think the view is of the car park.

we usually book pretty close to the top of what's available, so there's no room for upgrade...
but i do recall once when i booked a regular room that we were upgraded to concierge....that was at the WL, but years ago....i did not ask to be upgraded (i never would).

oh and i remember being upgraded at the YC once, before we started staying concierge...
they upgraded us to a water view room...but again, i didn't ask...

We had a 20hour delay on our last trip - when i checked in at POFQ a day late I was shown a room in block 7 -quite a distance away.

I asked politely - is there anything a bit closer and could not help it - I just broke down into tears... I was upset we had lost a day upset we had missed our Stitch breakfast. I just wanted a room closer that was all -tired and upset.

The CM was lovely and said give her a moment - we then got a room in building 2 and much closer. When we got to the room it was right on waters edge, lovely view and right next to the boat dock!!

this reminds me that on my most recent visit to WDW, last month, i was traveling by myself, so i stayed at the pop century..
when i got to my room i saw that it wasn't one of the refurbished rooms...
so i called reception and requested that they move me to a refurbished room...after a moment, the CM got back on the phone and said no problem at all and that they would move me to one of the refurbished rooms..

so if i were your friends, i would definitely request as nice a view as the CM can possibly give them....in a very friendly 'chummy' sort of way...not at all demanding..
just tell them to ask if their room has a nice view....and if he/she could try to put them in a room with a nice view....since standard can be both parking and garden...
if they're very friendly and not demanding or obnoxious, the CM will most likely try to accommodate their request.....unless the hotel is completely booked, in which case, there won't be much flexibility...
