Long time lurker who decided to come out of the closet! I saw this on-line and thought of all of you DisBrides-to-be and wondered what you all thought of this? Especially those of you who are using Cinderella's carriage.

Kate Middleton Should Arrive at Her Wedding in a Carriage. You Should Not.
By: Jessica Pauline Ogilvie | 2 Comments previous post | next post

Well, the news has finally broken: Kate Middleton — soon to be Princess Catherine — will be arriving at the royal wedding in a carriage.

This, you’ll recall, is an update from our previous report that someone in the Middleton clan had tweeted the news that Kate would show up in a car rather than a carriage — a tweet which set royal nerves on edge and earned the future princess a call, rumor had it, from none other than the queen herself.

I think we can all imagine, at this point, what was communicated over the course of that call. Suffice it to say, there will be no car.

That said, I’d like to make one thing clear, because I, like you, have seen enough bridal shows to know that there’s nothing a bridezilla loves more than a carriage, which means that many a bridezilla the world over will take this as a green light to get a carriage to her own wedding.

So let’s be clear. It’s not tacky for Kate Middleton to arrive at her own wedding in a carriage because she is marrying royalty. You arrive like a princess when you’re about to become a princess. You don’t arrive like a princess as part of an elaborate, childish fantasy game as you prepare to enter into the most serious, most adult commitment of your life.

OK? No carriages, just because Kate Middleton did it. You’re not Kate Middleton. And you’re not a princess. You are a grown-*** woman. Get out of the carriage.

I can't post a link but if you go to thegloss.com, the story is there.

I think the author of this isn't a Disney fan. :lmao: And based on the overall tone of the article, I feel sorry for her (him?).

I've always pictured it this way - Your wedding is your last excuse to put on a big fluffy white dress and feel like a princess. So if a bride wants a coach, I have no problem with it. I don't think it's tacky. Especially at Disney World/Disneyland. In the fairytale Disney setting, I find very appropriate.

But then again, I'm not one to judge others for their type of wedding.... and I am a child at heart.

Considering the OP only registered to post a nasty article, and considering the fact that they highlighted the most negative stuff in that article, I think it's safe to assume their motive was simply to :stir: . Let's not feed the troll!

I guess I just never considered that people would actually do the 'arrive in a carriage' thing, even at disney, lol. That's really stretching the fairy tale part isn't it? I'm just afraid that it would be perceieved as a bride that is just trying to live a Cinderella fantasy instead of someone getting married, you know? Like people would think it was a joke?

It's actually a spammer. I went to that site and all it is is makeup. Not one reading article on it. So yeah....SPAM.

Wow you clearly don't read these wedding threads too much - plenty of girls having the carriage here!!!

Well princess or not, I'm paying for my wedding myself, and if I want a carriage i'll be having it and wont be giving a second thought about what anyone else thinks.

Yes, I hardly think a join date of 03-24-2011 qualifies someone as a 'long time lurker'

I think its a little sad that someone has taken the time to comment on peoples choices, Im personally not going for the carriage but its a personal choice and a very very special day for bride, groom and family to celebrate as big or as small as they want.

At the heart of every wedding is the love you share with your partner and the joy and excitement of sharing your life together, how you celebrate that is up to you! I feel very very blessed to firstly marrying the man of my dreams and secondly having a dream wedding to celebrate with family and friends.

Sorry rant over, I could go on but better not!

Congrats to all the gorgeous brides and grooms on here x

Hi I am a long time Lurker! (Although it's fair to say I'd been lurking long before I had signed up to the site.) I just wanted to add that lots of people are car people but lots of people prefer animals to cars. My cousin really isn't the princessy sort but she had a carridge as a surprise gift off a friend because she loves horses and the day wouldn't have been right without them there.

The fact is there are some beuatiful traditional cars out there but nothing is more traditional than a carridge.

I think this attitude in the UK had a lot to do with the cindy coach Jordan trend which has been emulated by many teenage gypsy girls in dresses so big that they have to wade down the isle squeasing it between the pews. There is nothing wrong wih the Cindy coach (it's not for me I'm a belle/ snow white girl) but if people saw you riding in it on your wedding day in the UK they'd assume you were having a big tacky wedding before they even saw you. Of course this doesn't apply to Disney it's all part of the magic for some lucky brides and those lucky enough to spot her on her special day.

Tinky bell I totally agree, those gypsy weddings ruined my idea of the carriage!

Some are VERY tacky but the Disney one is absolutely beautiful, then again if you go full on tack its up to you!

Im going with the limo only due to budgets and that my dad is not good with horses ha ha!

I did NOT do this to stir a pot. I wanted to know thoughts as I was planning on using a carriage and now I'm thinking that people will look at me funny.

Thanks for making me feel so welcome, Pixie!!! I highlighted because those were the things I was concerned about.

Wow -- I thought Disney people and the people on this board were nice. I've been reading here and didn't post until I got my proposal and we decided to look into a Disney wedding.

No, I actually never have. I'm usually in the theme park threads...I just started browsing these trying to get ideas. Sorry if I offended - I think a carriage would be overboard for me, but if you aren't marrying me then it shouldn't be a problem, lol. I've also seen weddings that were total Star Wars style complete with light sabers, Darth Vader and Ewoks! I'm sure that it was exactly what the bride and groom wanted but for me it seemed nuts - same thing. If you want it then go for it!:)

Wow -- I didn't realize that I couldn't lurk without signing up. As I said previously, I didn't sign up because I wasn't engaged though I knew I wanted a Disney wedding. And, second, I didn't sign up earlier because I wasn't planning a Disney trip.

So sorry ... I thought people here were kind and considerate based on what I read in the past. I guess all the meanies are out today?

I got the website wrong. So sorry. I corrected it in my OP. It is NOT spam. Thanks for making me feel so welcome here.

I'm sorry ShannaLax. This site is really awesome and people really are the friendliest! I've just started looking at this section but really love the site so from me :welcome:

And Congratulations on your engagement! pixiedust:

Thank you, Lucky Princess! :goodvibes

Congratulations on your engagement, too!

I hope there are more people as nice as you are! :flower3: Otherwise, I'll just have to revert to lurking again.

No don't give up on us here! :sad1: I think Grumpy was out this morning, lol! I'll give you extra pixie dust to make up for your terrible welcome so far! pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:
