...on Sunday night, January 7. Have you gone? What's it like? Is it worth sticking around for? I'm pretty sure (VERY sure) we won't be getting any awards!

We went over to PI last year for the celebration, but didn't see the awards ceremony. All the results were posted on boards behind the comedy warehouse, along that walkway. It was fun to find our results. There were a LOT of people at PI that night wearing their medals and the CMs at the clubs always made a point of making a big deal over us. It was very cool. :teeth:

Ooooo...that sounds like fun. Maybe DD and I can pretend other people's results are ours.

We keep saying we're going to start "training", and last night I was adamant that we'd go out walking/running today. But it's HOT out...sticky, overbearing hot. DD did put some time in on the elliptical today, and I did too...she did 29 minutes more than me. OK...she did 30 minutes. We better get working!

keenercam, didn't you do some kind of run in WDW in the beginning of May? I think I read that somewhere. My DH and I actually drove past that run, I think. We were staying at Sarasota Springs and heading towards DtD. :)

Yes. I did the Inaugural Minnie 15K on Sunday, May 7. I know there were other race events (I believe a 1 mile and a 5K) on Saturday. That is so cool, that you and DH saw us. Oh, and the really ironic thing? 3 of us were staying at Saratoga Springs! It would have been so cool to run into other WISHers.

By the way, the thing that finally motivated me to really buckle down was realizing marathon weekend is now 5.5 months away!

I posted this in October of 2005 on the thread currently on the last page of this thread entitled "what happens after the marathon."

I attended the awards ceremony this January 2005.

I did manage a nap after the event and before the awards ceremony.

5:00 p.m. Awards Ceremony = The absolute top winners are not present because they are the parade marshals for the 3:00 parade at MK. The lists of finishers are posted according to age groups and events. There is a table by the stage with the awards that will be presented for those who want to see them. People gather, adult beverages are available for purchase, mingling and high fives occur, awards are announced and given to the top participants in each age group and that part is completed. For me, I enjoyed this part to see what others were doing “at the front,” but I do enjoy the awards ceremonies at the race events. DH and I also met up with a wonderful couple older than we are. She is the reason I am going to do the marathon. She told me I could do it as she was accepting her award for the over 70 marathon runners. Her DH and my DH had something in common both being hip replacement recipients. It was great weather at that time and I was still on a major high from completing my first ever half marathon that it continued.

7:00 p.m. Post Race Celebration begins = The clubs are available for “free” (I believe this is the only free offering) to the participants until PI closes for those who want to stay or who arrive at whatever time for the evening. I was too exhausted to play and went to grab a bite to eat then back to the resort to sleep it all off right after the awards ceremony so I cannot attest to the celebration for the evening.

Be certain to wear your medal to the awards event and if you are staying past the day, wear it there during the week. Many will celebrate with you as you wear your medal. That is such fun!

I hope it answers some of your question. I did not make it for the presentation this January. I would have liked to though; it just didn't work out.

Ssuuurrreee...YOU can laugh! ;) I'm getting in a panic over this! I keep putting off signing up to see if I get motivated, and then I tell myself that signing up will be my motivation!

Oooohh...I want to be in the parade. :teeth: Don't think I'll make it this year tho...or next...or...maybe I can just GO to the parade. ::yes::

Thanks for the info. If you come back to this thread...I'll be doing it (if I do it :() with my 16 yr old DD. I know only really really bad mommies ;) take their children to bars, ie, Pleasure Island, but do you think this would be OK for her? (I have taken her to Pleasure Island before...ssshhh)

The awards portion was for me interesting to see. I liked that. The evening party is no different than what you have already experienced. Pleasure Island is stil Pleasure Island.

Wherever you are for as long as you are there is a celebration! Wear your medals everywhere. I wore mine all week. It is fun to congratulate others for their efforts and be congratulated too.
