Disney Plans Third 'Cars' Movie and Second 'Incredibles' Film

The reason they will make it is because Cars has a HUGE audience. Cars 2 made nearly $200 million doestic and over $550 million worldwide.

I'm sure that factors in, but the real reason they will make it is because Cars has made over $10 Billion in merchandising.

I'm so freaking happy they're making Incredibles 2! Not a big sequel fan but I have been wanting more Incredibles action since the first movie came out for whatever reason. I guess super hero type films just work better as running series. Besides it's been quite a few years, so I think the timing is right.
Now another Pirates movie, there's something I wish they never did a sequel to. Way to sully such a clever and original film with 4(!) inferior followings.
Cars 2 was originally a made for TV (or am I thinking Planes?) effort so not a real offering in my mind.

Planes was originally planned for straight to DVD but they put it in theaters. Cars 2 as far as I know was always supposed to go to the theaters.

~The Incredibles 2 & (especially) Cars 3 are definitely about the merchandising. But, I have hope that the films will be decent, as well.

~The Incredibles 2 will probably focus on the children this time. School, peer pressure, parents & super powers should make for a compelling story. The Incredibles 2 will also help to launch Disney Infinity 2.

~Cars 3 will be much better than Cars 2. Mater is funny and a great story teller but to make him the lead character and center the entire film around his escapades was a huge mistake, IMO. So, anything should be better than Cars 2 as long as Mater is not the lead character. Also, Cars 3 will help to garner continued interest in Carsland.

~We can count on both IP's to sell a lot of lunchboxes, backpacks, toys, bed spreads -- basically anything you can put a price on.

Quality is not important. Disney will make a sequel to anything that sells. Pirates V and Star Wars VII will be terrible but they'll sell to the fanboys.

Agreed - they will sell no matter what.

I think something worthy of note is the Incredibles franchise can help Disney bridge the gap to Marvel in younger audiences. Also, Marvel's continued success only strengthens the argument that superheroes are hot right now.

I personally would love to see fewer Pixar sequels and more original IPs, but what can you do.
