I'm a mom of DS8 with special needs and his FAVORITE movies are Disney/Pixars Toy Story Movies and Cars movie.... and I had heard rumblings at Disney about possible Toy Story 3 and Cars 2 (be still my mommy heart), and today while cruising the net more info was posted! I'm so excited:cool1: ! Has anyone else heard about this??? I'm really hoping it's true because my little man is sooo thrilled with these characters and this Mom is ready for some new movies with those characters!!:cool1:

There is always hope... :)

I believe TS3 is in active production, although I'm not sure of that. I think it is targeted for 2010.

A report just came out that Disney is also planning Cars 2 for 2011, but I'm not sure what the original source is.

I though Lasseter was against sequels in general?

Toy Story 3 is listed as Pixar's 2010 release, with Wall-e this year and then John Carter of Mars in 2009. I would really be surprised with Cars 2 following Toy Story 3. I would think the 2011 release would be a Brad Bird directed movie, then maybe Cars 2.

That is if they make a sequel. The poster above is right, Pixar has been anti-sequel. If they don't see a story, I doubt they would do a sequel.

Toy Story 3 was confirmed last year to be in production.

This seems to be the Disney movie list for the next few years.

2008-Blot
2009-The Princess and the Frog
2010-Repunzel/Toy Story?
2011-Toystory?

Repunzel and Toy Story are being devoloped by diffrent teams and Repunzel has already been pushed back, so expect Toy Story sometime in or around 2011. And if Cars 2 is true expect it in 2012.

Yes it is coming in I believe in fall of 2010. I also believe it will be in 3D like meet the robinsons. Toy Story 1 and 2 are going to be released in 3D starting in OCT 09, with toy story 1 and the toy story 2 in may 2010. both in 3D in theatres. Basically they are going to try and bring in the younger generation to get a better feel of the flow of the movies. also from what I have read the movie will be based on a toy recall.......

I have heard of Toy Story 3 but never heard of Cars 2. I do have to say that I really wish Disney would stop all sequels live action and animation. If they want a new audience to love the classic characters then bring them to the movie theater before re releasing them on DVD. I would love to take my son to see all the movies on the big screen. I just wish they would find new stories instead of telling the same ones with sequels.

I also remember seeing somewhere that they plan on alternating the movie releases (Original/Sequel/Original/Sequel). I am not sure if that translates to one movie per year, or just the release order. If Cars 2 is 2011, there would be an original production following TS3 in either late 2010 or early 2011. Do you think that they would they put the new release in the "Summer Blockbuster" May 2011 slot and then have Cars 2 out in the Fall of 2011?

As far as I am aware, Cars 2 has been mentioned by a magazine as being given the green light, however Disney have not announced it is being developed. As it is the animation schedule loks pretty full for a few years, but who knows how they might handle it.
I think Walt Disney Animation have 3 films that have been announced:
2008 - BOLT
2009 - Princess and the Frog
2010 - Rapunzel

and PIXAR also have 3 films that have been announced:
2008 - WALL-E
2009 - Up
2010 - Toy Story 3
in addition to these I think it is a very good chance we will see John Carter of Mars and Cars 2 in 2011 - 2012. The former has been mentioned a million times already, and Cars 2 seems to be an obvious choice (in that the merchandise will sell loads).

I have also heard that Toy Story and Toy Story 2 will be re-released in 3D maybe next year, before the third film. I would like to think that if Cars gets a sequel in 3D then they might also do this with the original too.

Of course this is in addition to all the 'live-action' films, the projects with Tim Burton and the motion capture projects.

Iger was on CNBC today and confirmed Toy Story 3 was in development. He also spoke a little about 4 movies going staight to dvd are related to fairies aka Tink and friends - the thought is that this will take off like the princess campaign.

I would also speculate that with the money they are putting into Cars Land at DCA in Anaheim, set to open in 2012, they will definitely want to have fresh Cars fare in theaters to coincide with that.

I wonder how much truth there is the speculation that there will be an Incredibles II. They at least set you up for a sequel, or at least much more story to be told at the end.

Toy Story 3 has been "in development" for awhile and I would love to see it come to fruition. Rumor for a while was that Disney was going to do it without Pixar. I also read that before the Disney/Pixar merger so no telling what was up or down then.

A Cars II. Not sure they have a follow up with that film. What kind of plot could they have this time around?

USA Today today has a cover article on digital 3-D movies being used to pull people back into the theaters. Toy Story 3 is listed as a release in 2010. There is even a short story summary (I won't post it in case people don't want to be spoiled.) The article is in the Friday, March 11th paper, section E pages 1-2 for anyone interested.
