Disney pins in luggage?

I've been reading the boards here for several months in preparation for our trip at the end of March (38 days..woo hoo!)

Anyway, I'm coming out of lurkdom for some advise on packing my Disney pins. We haven't been to Disney since 1999. Are the pins going to cause any problems with airport security because they have sharp, metal points? How should I pack them, carry-on or checked luggage?

Thanks for any suggestions! :D

Good question! I did not even think of that. When we went last March, DD packed hers in her backpack. This year I don't know. Hopefully someone will give us a response!

I carry mine on and haven't ever had a problem. I've flown with my pins in my carryon six times since 9/11. No one has ever given them a second glance. They seem more concerned about the laptop and cellphone, and my shoes. I've gotten to the point that I take them off and put them on the conveyor and walk through the machine in socks, it's just easier.

I had my pins in my carryon about a week ago, there was no problem.

I now take a safety razor and nail clippers in my carry-on, with no problems. As others have said I'm sure the pins won't be an issue.

Thanks for the response! This is our first time taking pins to participate in trading. I'd hate to lose them at the security counter because they were confiscated. Sounds like I don't have to worry about that! :D

The general consensus among pin traders is to carry pins in carry-on luggage. Even before the new security procedures after 9/11, most kept their pins with them rather than risk their checked luggage being lost, stolen, or rerouted to Seattle for the duration of their vacation.

When we went down for the September Pin Event, security at RIC went through our carry-on with the pins very thoroughly. We had a pin book, a pin backpack, a pin fanny pack, and a box full of lanyard traders (yes, we're obsessed), and nothing was confiscated. Security just had to make sure that nothing was hidden within what appeared on their monitor to be a big mass of metal.

I flew in Dec with all my pins and all the airport security check points I went through did a thorogh check....Up to 10 mins. at Boston Logan.....

Traveling to WDW over the Christmas holiday, I was surprised to see several people getting on the airplane wearing their lanyards-they just took them off to go through the metal detector at security. Actually I was a little jealous-they got a headstart on me pin trading-I had to wait to fish my lanyard out of my backpack at the hotel!
