Disney Pins- How do you wear them in parks and Display at home?

(I have no idea which forum this should go in so my apologies)

I'm relatively new to my addiction so bear with me haha. I have more pins than will fit on a lanyard so I'm looking for other ideas. I don't think I want to wear a vest with the pins on them though. Any other ideas?

Also, when you get back home, what do you do with your pins. I'd like to display my favorites someway in my office. Any suggestions!

My 3 kids and I all trade pins. We only take the pins we are planning to trade with us to the parks and wear them on a lanyard. At home all our pins are stored in a pin trading bag from Disneyshopping. They aren't visible for display, but the kids open the bags, sort them, talk about them, etc. frequently. If you are interested in displaying them at home, I've seen people put them in shadow boxes or on cork boards.

I love all my pins (I collect ones of Walt and/or Mickey) and I wear them to work on jacket lapels or shirt collars. That way I have a little magic with me every day!

I love to show my collection off once I get home (all that money - everone is admiring them!) so all I did was put tacks into a wall in my room, fill up my lanyards and hang them. I have four fairly full lanyards hanging now and all I do is add a tack for each new lanyard. It displays them well and it's a fairly cheap means of hanging them.

Our family of 4 all collect, and in the parks we wear our lanyards with only the pins we plan to trade that day on them. For home... I bought an in-expensive blank canvas from Michaels (the kind you would paint on), painted simple mickey ears for a background and then attached the pins to it. Each of us has our own part of the canvas for our pins. I like the canvas because I can attach the backs to the pins, and it is essentially no thicker or different from a lanyard - it won't bend the backs the way cork can. Of course after our last trip I need to make a new larger one! They are so crowded now they are hard to see...

Good ideas! Doesn anybody get aggravated by how the Disney lanyards feel on their neck? That could just be me though.

A friend emailed me back this morning and said they found shallow "shadow boxes" (I guess that's what they are) that she said could work for pins. She said she found them at a World Market. Does anybody use something like that?

pinfinders.com sell some little wooden display units for pins. Can't remember how much they are or if they are available elsewhere but they look sweet on a child's windowsill.

At home we use a canvas also. It works great as a PP mentioned. I like the camera strap idea though. I may move a few on to mine.

Our collection has grown quite large and there are MANY "no-traders" that won't leave the house. I'm taking a photo of the pin board with me so I can try to trade for pins that complete sets.

We will be bringing all of our villan type pins since we are going to MNSSHP. They won't be traded, but they will be with us!!

On another note, does anyone know if there is a reference book that shows pictures of all of the completed steps? Its hard when you don't know what you're looking for!!

I don't really trade pins, but I collect them. So, while I'm at the parks I just buy my pins. I don't really get a lanyard.

Then when I get home, I have a shadow box with a canvas in it and I stick in all of my pins so I can see them all. I also take a picture of them and write something about each pin in a word document so I can remember things that happened when I got my pins.

At home, how I display... Last year I went through some old T-Shirts of mine that were worn out, and didnt really fit well any more, and I sewed them together to make a tapesty of sorts that I hung on the wall above my bed. Then I thought about it and started to put some of my pins on it - just my very favorite ones so I can still see my old T-Shirts too!!

As for the parks, I really dont' get into the face-to-face trading as much, but I keep a pin or 2 in my backpack just in case I get up the nerve I'm more into purchasing my pins and I do a lot of online pin trading to get those really cool pins from Japan!!!

Have you looked on Pinpics.com? Usually if a pin is a part of a set, you can look up that particular pin and in the description it will give you the numbers of the rest of the pins in that particular set. Hope that helps!!

We have a large Mickey mirror & two magnetic Mickey whiteboards. All are hanging on the wall & have pegs on them. We hang our lanyards (full of pins) on those & just take them off when it's time to pack for a WDW trip!!

I was wondering about the at home aspect. I was going through some things the other day and came across my lanyard with pins in a Disney World bag.

Here's what we use (you can't put the backs on the pins):

My mom got a shadow box from Hobby Lobby and covered the interior with black velvet and gave it to us for Christmas last year. We've started our collection for another case

I cut the backs off of mine and use them as charms in my scrapbooks for the trips where I got the pins. For the one of a kind ones that we get from our tours (we got 10 on our adventures by disney tour to london and france), I keep mine on a lanyard and cut the backs off my husband's for my scrapbook.

I put all my Flower and Garden Festival Pins on my FGF hat. I don't wear the hat for long because the pins make it heavy, but is nice for display.

I have my kids pins on lanyards hanging in their room. They also have a plush animal "corral" hanging in their room. I stick the pins on that and it makes a nice display.

The canvas idea is great-I will be using that next.

The kids also get to pick a pin or two each trip to keep as a souvineer-I put their names and the month/year of our trip to remember.

I have pins in binders, frames, lanyards, corkboards, pinbags, laying around....
For a "peacock lanyard" I use the locking pin backs. Those can be purchased on property. As an example, for PI closing ( ) I wore PI/AC/CW pins on a lanyard.
I have found Walmart sells multiple sizes of corkboards for far less than anyone. And that makes pins easy to display and trade off too.
LMK if you come with a good way to display pins in boxes. I have a lot of those and refrain from buying more boxed pins.

I do the exact same thing in my home -- however, I first cover the canvases with appropriate fabric. For example: for my wife's Princess Pin collection the canvas is covered with purple crushed velvet. My Haunted Mansion Pins are on a background of torn and tattered black gauze. Pirate Pins are on a stamped pleather background.

(For the record: Wal*Mart has less expensive canvases than Michael's)
