why no flash? i have the same shot just from the other side. were you as disappointed as i was that the real explosion comes so late? i guess it has to, but what a letdown! i wanna be in the middle area when that car comes through.

I'd like to be in the middle as well. Maybe if I just shot off a string of photos at one time I could get the one I'm really looking for ...... not blurred. :thumbsup2

Dcanoli, I believe this is what you get to do before riding the train from Toontown to the Main Street station to "drop the rope" so to speak.

I would love to get to do this someday. It looks like a fun thing to do.

If you've never heard of this, everyday, a family is asked if they'd like to open the Magic Kingdom on that day. The family is taken back to Toontown before anyone gets in the park and they get to spend some time with a lot of the characters. After that they get on the train with all the characters including Mickey and Minnie, and they come around to the Main Street Station, where they get off the train and go through the opening ceremonies or the "rope drop" to open the park...

i'd love to be that family!!!!!!!

One of my favorites from our last trip. :)

(On vacation in Tennessee but I still gotta DIS :goodvibes )

Jeff,

That superwide does give a different perspective, huh? I'll be checking back for waterfalls, streams, and mountain vistas in the days to come. Enjoy your vacation!

The picture was taken in Aug . We were at the gates about 45 mins early and my wife asked if we could be the family of the day the Cm she asked went to her boss and came back and said no they had one all ready about 15 mins later after thinking no problem we just talked and had fun with the cm's, the boss came out and asked if we would be the family of the day. We were at magic kingdom 5 days later and were talking with the cm's and we were asked if we would be the family of the day . We said that we had done it earlier in the week and that they should give another lucky family the fun.

Do you know what you just done? YOU HAVE GIVEN THIS MOMMA SOME HOPE (and probably a lot of other people on this board too)!

Let me say this one thing--MY HUSBAND IS GOING TO KILL ME! I swear, I think I am going to leave him at the resort and get the kids up and go super early!

Now, let me pick your brain about this--last time we went, we got there early enough to get to the wall right in front (bottom) of the lawn and right in front of the train. So, when you say they pick a family from the GATE, where exactly are you talking? Where would a Mom need to have her family "perched" to increase their chances?

I am so happy that you posted because like I said above, I've always assumed they picked a family ALREADY INSIDE the Park. That is what ALWAYS happens with waking Tink. Even if you go right in after the rope drop and head directly to the shop, Tink is already awake. (And, it's always somebody from the Castle's breakfast!)

i probably had a couple in-between those, but those were taken literally 2 seconds apart (the camera does 5 fps). the only way you're going to see that car and the explosion together is to be in front of both of them. there's a really good shot in the complete guide to WDW, i'm guessing it's a disney stock photo.

bradk.........I LOVED your tiger pictures....the one with the fountain (the placement of the fountain) had me :lmao:

Now a question.....your avatar...did you get that pic on the train tour? That is awesome.

Joe have a great time in Disneyland.

Diskneegeek so glad to see you posting & pixiedust: for you & PF for the rest of the pregnancy.

Evad.........where in Tennessee are you vacationing???? Might be just down the road from me.

a lot of my shots use a WA. i have a 10-22 (or 16-35 given the crop factor). best $700 i ever spent. sadly it's an EF-S which i don't believe is yet supported on any 1:1 CMOS. i'm dying to see what a true 10mm gets me

Deb[/QUOTHi Dcanoli What I can tell is that we were early like one of the first families at the ticket machines way to the left almost at the end. My son is very out going and talks with older people very well so we talked and joked with the cm's both times. The rest is just luck. We have opened animal Kingdom , been the big Kahuna at typhoon . I think it all has to be with being kind and down to earth with the Cm's and very lucky and very early. Good luck It is amazing I hope we get to do it again .

We opened MGM. We were there very early, were the first people lined up at our turnstyle, and were wearing matching bright orange shirts.
I don't think that it hurt that we had 6 kids at the time. LOL
:dance3: :dance3:

They took our tickets and put them through without finger scans, and escorted us away from the turnstyles BEFORE telling us we were the family of the day. It was very cool. It was our first day, and I had hauled their bottoms out of bed very early. They forgave me. LOL :wizard:

My POTD Inside Space Mountain from the TTA

e938153d.jpg

Space Mtn was broken down when I went through and all the lights were on.. :scared1:
It was so cool and I tried to get a pic but there is plexiglass (like at a hockey arena) all around the TTA track so all I got was a glare from my flash  It was really cool though. :thumbsup2 I think I need to learn how to use my camera in low lighting with no flash.
