We are planning on stopping by Disney for two days on our way to Thanksgiving. We are bringing our dog, a yellow lab. I called the Disney kennel and they indicate that they do not take reservations. Has anyone had any experiences with their dog kennels? We are planning to get there right as they open the kennel at 8a but they did say that the large kennels were the first ones to fill up. Any strategies or personal experience that may help us make sure to get our dog in their kennel? If they are filled, does anyone know of alternatives close to WDW?

I consider myself an expert with this, as we go every month with our dog.

They are right, the big cages fill up first as there are less of them and they even put smaller dogs in them if they are not full yet.

However, here's the deal.

If the parks are not "heavy" crowded, you will get a spot no problem. Even on heavy times you get space in most cases.

Example: On July 4, (the entire week) we had NO PROBLEMS getting a place at the MK kennel. However during the Hurricane when everyone evacuated, they were full (but that is uncommon, everyone brought their animals with them).

If you go early in the am you'll get a spot NO PROBLEM. When you get there, ask how busy they have been and how busy they expect to be the next few days. If they expect to be busy, simply pay to keep your dog there overnight (if you didnt plan already).

If you take your dog to the hotel at night (which we do, with appropriate hotels) simply pay to keep them there overnight still and tell them you are taking the dog on "an exteded walk". They will tell you that is what to say. They know an "extended walk" means you are taking them with you overnight but will be back in the morning. YOu have to use that terminology as some employees when busy will not tell you about it and will tell you that you cannot "reserve" a cage for the next day. However if you pay for overnight then it's yours.

When we went over the Hurricane, we simply bought the cage for the entire week and just took him on "extended walks" every night.

Ask any questions. I got answers!

Hey!

We've kennelled both cats and dogs there. The dogs never seemed to mind it. The cat... not so much.... he ended up in the hotel rooms with us. We have pictures of him lounging in bed at the GF. I just pray it was a few room cleanings later before someone with allergies was in that room (guilty look).

My big tip would be to find he park that has latest closing time. The kennels stay open one hour after the latest park closing.

Good luck! I am sure Rover will be just fine!

Well I used to stress about this non-stop. I used to find the park open latest and board them there, until I realized you dont need to.

Even when the kennell closes, security stays at or near the kennel until late hours. You simply go to the kennel (after it's closed) and pick up the phone to security on the building and a guard comes by, checks your pink sheet (you'll get a pink sheet verifying that you are the dog's owner) and lets you in to get your pet 24 hours per day.

Just so you know that they make it easy, even for MNSCHP and MVMCP, the parties last until midnight yet the kennels close at 10:00 on those nights. When we go after closings now, we generally see a guard waiting at the door for anyone with pets who will be coming by.

So basically just choose the kennel where you will be at the most during the day, so you can easily walk your dog. Dont worry about closing times. As long as you keep your pink sheet, you're completely fine.

You're kidding, I hope.

I didn't know that Oprah Winfrey was on the DIS Boards.

Are pets allowed anywhere on property or if I stay on property does my dog need to stay in A kennel the entire time?

What does that have to do with Oprah Winfrey?

I heard one time that Oprah Winfrey stayed at the GF with her dog. So I figured this poster who had a cat in the room must have been Oprah Winfrey.

We've taken our dog a few times. Once was post-hurricane Charley and it was crowded (many of the CMs on the hurricane ride out crew had brought in their animals). Anyway, we took her to the TTC kennel that time and again this past July. She was fine. The TTC kennels are clean and their hours are very convenient. It is also really easy to get to the TTC (if you are relying on Disney transport). We stay onsite so we left her overnight and would just come feed her and walk her a few times a day. (They give you the option to feed yourself or have them feed - we always bring her food and do it ourselves.)

The first time we took her, it was to the kennels at Ft. Wilderness - we (and she!) loved Ft. Wilderness. There is a nice grassy area to walk and it is much quieter than the TTC kennels. The main drawback - Disney transport getting to and from Ft. Wilderness (especially from another resort!). Also, sometimes the Ft. Wilderness kennels hours are shorter than the others.

I've read that the Epcot kennels have started walking (for a fee) but I have not had a chance to explore this for our dog.

Good luck! If you have other questions, feel free to PM me! :paw: :paw:

Have you looked into the Lowes Hotel on site at Universal Studios? All three of their hotels accepts pets. We stay there primarily because we bring our American Eskimo Dante with us. Your dog can stay in the room while you are out at the parks, etc. If you have any questions, I would be more than happy to help you. Thanks. :paw:
