Disney Parts Ways With Beloved Hilton Head Island Resorts B’Lou and Shadow

Everything is going cookie cutter generic. Soon it will be hard to tell the differences between one resort and another. Up next, Animal Kingdom Lodge...

I hate to say it but... HHI has always been generic. As have Vero Beach, Bay Lake Tower, Saratoga Springs, Old Key West, VGF, Riviera, and Beach Club.

Animal Kingdom, Wilderness Lodge, the Poly, Aulani, and Grand Cal are the exceptions, not the rule.

Agreed. I didn’t come up with this analogy, but ii is pretty well aligned with your point.. 😳

Stirring the pot here.....perhaps they'll come back with a Shadow character.....as opposed to a real dog. Just planting seeds....

Not really, OKW, when it opened, was themed as the island town of Conch Flats, the rooms were colorful in a real Key West way. It was themed as a small island community. Sadly, not so much any more. And at the bend in the "river" there was a Pirates Cove themed area, but the "artifacts" were taken as souvenirs by people, so it was removed.

All the resorts are themed to their locations and reflect that in the architecture and at one time the room decor. The ones you see as exceptions are just more recognizable, but not really more themed.

Disappointing...

On our 1st visit to HH (5ish years ago), we didn't know much about the programming and decided to "check out" B'lou's show and see what it was about. Our grandson really enjoyed watching his magic, and then being taught a trick. We enjoyed B'lou's one-on-one conversations after his shows. He made us feel special. So, we decided to see him a couple more times during the week. Fast-forward to last month when after making a reservation for next April we were talking about B'lou and hoping he'd be back by then. For us, his warmth and welcoming demeanor really helped put the "home" in "welcome home" at that resort.

We're very sad.

We have been to HH over the years,,,our bad luck never once seen either of them. Heard about them but never seen them. Never stopped us or made our trip less enjoyable.
As PP mentioned only heard one side, but cuts are being made.

Which with DVC has always been a bit questionable since we are charged dues for everything at the resort.

I’m here now and it looks like a big empty space. You’d think that at least they’d wait until they had something to put there. They must have been pretty anxious to eliminate all signs of her.

Wondering if all of the negative attention has actually inspired corporate to make the changes sooner, hoping that "out of sight would be out of mind"?

Shadow's dog house has now been removed.

If you haven't yet, let DVC know how you feel about the decision and sign the petition below to bring Shadow and the dog house back to DHHIR. Over 2,400 members have signed it and the plan is for it to presented along with all of the testimony at the Annual Membership meeting.

I'm so glad I was there last week and got to see it and get a picture. So sad!

I'm here now and was surprised to see the doghouse still there when we arrived last week.

Just to be a bit upbeat, Cast Members are still awesome!

Pluto is doing an excellent job. The grands (4 and 5) have had interactions twice with him and both times were fun for them. They overcame the fear and think it's 'not a human in a costume' but a 'real' dog. That surprised me, but it seems dogs are not scary, but humans in dog costumes are.

And, although it's not my habit to reward companies by buying up their merchandise when I disagree with a decision, I did go ahead and get a couple of Hilton Head pins featuring Mickey and Shadow. They had a Xmas one shaped like two trees. I have a lot of pins but rarely buy these days. Bought two of the resort pin with Shadow and Mickey.

Everyone loves it here still, although someone turned a giant fan on, on Tuesday and it was way too windy out after 2 days of very nice weather. It's now a bit cooler but thankfully the wind has receded. The next few days should be seasonal for us.

As a gentle reminder for the public at large, please don't take out your frustrations regarding Disney's decision on CMs. While the situation has upset many guests, continuous questioning and, in some cases, badgering of CMs about the situation heightens the tension and could put the CMs in a precarious position. The best CMs in all of Disney work at HHI and most love their jobs. Complaining directly to them or asking their opinions on the matter definitely compromises their ability to provide the guest with the best possible service. Just a friendly PSA. ;)
