This makes me very happy. Rumor is next summer for Disneyland's 70th. Hopefully it'll go into 2026 because I wasn't planning on going to CA next year
Aerial Photos Confirm Hotel Footprint, Construction Underway for ‘Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge’ at Fort Wilderness
As we look at the photo, one thing starts to come into focus – the outline of the infrastructure. We can see what appears to be white pipes laid out in a very deliberate manner. Looking at the photo below, we can actually start to visualize the layout of the structure if we assume that the white pipes represent the exterior walls of the building. In fact, we’ve gone ahead and created what we think will be the rough outline of the building in the next photo.

If the outline above looks somewhat familiar, that’s because we’ve seen it before. Here’s a look at an outline of the previously permitted Reflections hotel, with the new hotel in red, some lakeside cabins in blue, and Pioneer Hall in green.

Short of an official statement from Walt Disney World, these aerial photos are the closest that we’ll get to confirmation that the structure that Disney is building is the same as what was previously announced for Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge. Now, the final product can differ in name and aesthetic, but the layout appears to be the same as what was previously permitted.
I thought they scrapped Reflections, because of COVID.Aerial Photos Confirm Hotel Footprint, Construction Underway for ‘Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge’ at Fort Wilderness

Of all the Covid cancelled projects, Reflections was furthest along. It may not be Reflections, but another hotel in the same spotI thought they scrapped Reflections, because of COVID.

There was never any official acknowledgement that Reflections was stopped, paused or cancelled. As Gussey said, it was the furthest along of many projects when Covid hit. For those of us following this, it was never a question of IF it would be completed, but when. This was too far along to be completely abandoned. Flat work (parking lots, some additional grading) continued even during Covid. With the recent filing of crane permits and activity on the site last week, it looks like this is back in full construction mode.Of all the Covid cancelled projects, Reflections was furthest along. Couple of updates:
- The Little Mermaid - A Musical Adventure moved up to Summer 20205
- Big Thunder Mountain Closing January 6, 2025 for extended downtime, reopening in 2026
- TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures at Animal Kingdom closing Janurary 12, 2025
- DINOSAUR, the Boneyard, Restaurantosaurus, Dino-Bite Snacks, and Trilo-Bites stay open for now
Maybe the Little Mermaid delay means that they're prepping Animation Courtyard for potential construction? Maybe? Hopefully? Or I'm just coping with snorting a line of pixie dust?Scott Gustin Twitter

I’m also getting before long re-theme of thunder mountain and possibly the whole of Frontierland vibes…..
I arrive for 2 weeks on January 2nd. I'll get to ride BTMRR right before it closes, but I had the same thoughts as you. Other than Tiana, what is in that corner to draw people? Hopefully they do something to plus up the space during this extended down.My 2 cents:
With the year long Thunder rehab in WDW I wonder if they will put some pop up live entertainment or something in the Frontierland/Liberty Square area because it will definitely be brutal with;

So... maybe Muppets is safe? This is shocking to me. In December 2023, they first announced the re-imagined show would debut in Fall 2024. As recently as June 2024, Disney re-confirmed the fall 2024 date. We should be moments away from the show opening, but they are just now getting around to filing permits for exterior work??
The only obvious thing that changed between June 2024 and October 2024 is the August D23 announcement of the Monsters coaster.
How could they not know before now that they still needed exterior work done?? Something changed...

As we continue to look forward to “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure,” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios we are taking the next steps and filing permits for an all-new marquee. Work on the exterior of the building will begin soon, in preparation for the premiere of this fully reimagined show in summer 2025. We look forward to sharing more details on this exciting new experience soon.
