Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2024 Edition

I also don't agree that Coco 'blows away' Encanto. They are different stories but both relate to a complicated family dynamic which is so accurate in Latino families.
My sister and I relate a lot to the Madrigal sisters; we totally see some similar things in our own family.

Both Coco and Encanto made me cry but I see them as complementing each other.
Totally agree!

I fully expected them to announce a new park in South America.

When Bob Weis spoke, he mentioned a project in Australia that didn't pan out. That was before my time on this board. Does anyone know what was being planned in Australia?
I think it was the moving Disney Park, a park built on an oil tanker that could visit different ports??

Ah, okay I couldn't tell because I've seen people on social media say this unironically and assumed this article was more of the same.
It's kind of blown up a lot lol, was actually posted *before* the recent chatter involving Monsters, went viral then (and might have given a lot of people the idea), and now it's going viral again.

I do hope that Disney is paying attention to the conversation here. Two things are very clear:
  • People WANT the Monsters Inc. "Door Coaster" and Monstropolis area.
  • People DO NOT WANT MupperVision 3D to go away.
The solution, and I hope Disney really gets this, ist to put if over where Launch Bay currently is. It's a win-win an dabsolute no-brainer here. The ony worry I have is that they could come out and state it definitively and put an end to all this, but they haven't.

Man, if they announce the removal MuppetVision 3D in the same year they touted a Disney+ documentary on Jim Henson...the tone deafness will be off the charts. But I'm sure if they do, they will certainly sell MuppetVision 3D's going away merchandise.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I always felt like Coco was a beloved movie, regardless of ethnic background. Maybe not Frozen level, but I would say, at least as popular as Encanto, if not more. Just a feeling though… I don’t have any evidence to base this on other than my own feelings and conversations.
Coco deserves more at Disney World. I love Coco. Make some space behind Mexico at Epcot and put a great coco ride. Re-theme three caballeros and make it Coco. Even include the Three Caballeros in the ride concept and have them playing instruments also.

Also, Coco blows away Encanto in terms of movie and feelings. Encanto is a just a cool song about Bruno that I can't stand lol. It has the Lin Manuel popularity effect. Maybe I am being harsh about Encanto but I just don't see the appeal.

Totally agree. I love it, and I’m not latinx. My father-in-law is Chilean, but it’s totally not the same.

Prediction for Brazil D23 would be that they are finally building a Brazil pavilion in World Showcase, Give more Pueblo Esperanza details (like maybe a restaurant or shopping venue) or perhaps DCL porting there

I hope they add a Churascuria

Encanto, and Pueblo Esperanza, are Colombian so I don't know why they'd announce those details in Brazil - are you thinking just because it's in S. America?

Maybe attendees will be from around S. America? Perhaps this D23 event is a way to gauge the heights of the fandom in that continent?

WDWNT says their sources say that Muppets is staying. I hope they're right!
Disney needs to just announce where Monstropolis is going and put an end to the speculation.

Personally, I don’t feel the Muppet area is large enough for an indoor coaster, much less anything else that will go with it. So I truly believe it will go where Launch Bay is. The characters that meet there can meet in Galaxy’s Edge or by Star Tours. Disney Junior can be shuttered. If need be, those characters can meet elsewhere and they can do little dance parties in front of the Chinese Theater. And by putting Monstropolis over there, you spread the guests around equally around the park. I mean, just imagine the chaos on Grand Avenue with people trying to get into Galaxy’s Edge and Monstropolis being back there too. No, that’s not a good idea.

Why? Any reason they couldn't just wait until a bit later in the process?

If nothing else, it would be a nice kindness to their fans 😊

I wish people wouldn’t jump to premature conclusions and freak about Disney (or any company) removing something they haven’t said they’re removing. I get where OKW Lover means Disney shouldn’t ~have~ to reassure people about things they -not Disney- have talked about.

But Disney nor you or I can change human nature and this is just how people operate. “Disney could close Muppets” is out there in the ether now, and it’s something they can clear up in a quick interview statement.

They also could have avoided a lot of the confusion and not had to answer this question or which lion king movie the dlp land is based on if they'd updated their concept art from when it was originally done years ago.

I also think it's a fair question with how the announcements were made that they are happening and stuff is being done already or will be soon.
