NEWS: Two Disney Rides Announce Temporary CLOSURE

Ride closures are never fun when they fall in line with your vacation.

Sometimes ride closures happen unexpectedly for a few hours during the day, but others are planned in advance for longer refurbishments. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster recently reopened in Disney World after a long closure, but now it seems two Disneyland rides are closing down later this summer for some TLC.

It’s just been announced that two rides over in Disney California Adventure Park will close later this summer for refurbishments.

Toy Story Midway Mania! will close on July 17th for refurbishment. The calendar currently does not show a reopening date.

Midway Mania
Soarin’ Around The World will close on July 5th and open 10 days later on July 15th.

TSMM needs a refurbishment so badly! The foam on the handles of the toy guns are rotting off on half the vehicles and it’s sticky & gross. I’m sad they’re closing it during the summer, but hopeful it will be even better to ride when it’s open!

Yeah as someone who likes more intense coasters, I agree. I don't think Tron is intense at all. In my opinion it's kind of mediocre and I wouldn't pay the $20 ILL for it. On the flip side I love Guardians even if it's not insanely intense. In terms of coasters I've been on in Orlando (haven't been to Seaworld in 10+ years), Velocicoaster is the best and it's not even close.

In October I'll be going to Busch Gardens Tampa for the first time ever and hope to ride Iron Gwazi. I've heard it's amazing! I also like the look of Kumba and Cheetah Hunt.
I have ridden Iron Gwazi and it is unbelievable. Not for the faint of heart!

Anybody think Disney is taking advantage of the slow Summer at Disneyland to do any refurbishments, almost like the Summer is becoming the quiet season that Jan/Feb used to be?

The really slow, super tall lift hill had me questioning my decision to ride it, thinking I’m getting to old for this, but I loved it. We were passholders back in the day when the original gwazi opened up and they had a passholder preview before it opened and I think we rode both sides 10 times each that day. It had gotten really rough but they did it justice with its rebuild even if its not a dueling coaster anymore.

Both Red Car Trolleys Running for First Time in Five Years at Disney California Adventure

June 18, 2023byShannen Michaelsen

The second Red Car Trolley has returned to service at Disney California Adventure, marking the first time both trolley cars have run at once since 2018.

Though the Red Car Trolley is now considered an iconic element of Disney California Adventure, it was only added in 2012, over a decade after the park opened. In 2018, Red Car Trolley closed due to Avengers Campus construction. It remained closed for years longer than planned due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since returning to service in July 2022, only car 623 has been running.

Now trolley car 717 has returned to service and the two cars can be seen passing each other on Hollywood Boulevard.

717 is a reference to the opening date of Disneyland, July 17.

Though both trolley cars are, of course, red, 717 and 623 otherwise have different designs.

717 has orange borders around the top and bottom, orange doors, and orange art deco “wings” on the sides and ends.

623, on the other hand, is entirely red, which is how the trolley cars it’s based on were delivered after construction. It’s specifically inspired by the St. Louis Car Company’s 600-series trolleys from 1922.

6 comes from the 600 series, while 23 comes from the year The Walt Disney Company was founded: 1923.

The 717 is inspired by the 700-750 series trolleys constructed by the J. G. Brill Company in 1925. Its paint scheme more closely resembles the well-known design of the real Pacific Electric Railway’s trolley cars.

The original Pacific Electric Railway system operated from 1901 to 1961.

Each trolley seats precisely 20 people. The cables they appear to run on are just for show — the trolleys are battery-powered.

The three Red Car Trolley stops are near Animation Academy, at Carthay Circle, and on Buena Vista Street near the main entrance.

They also chose a really bad weekend to release it. There is soo much to see right now and there is limited time and money.

Yeah, they have got to work on their timing. Summer has always been crowded with blockbusters. I really think they would do better with Pixar either earlier in the year, or around the holidays, I know WDAS usually has the holidays slot, but they are getting crused in the spring slot.

Saw Elemental today--very good!

I feel bad that box office returns are low. Audience scores are very high but I think people are just waiting for it to be on Disney+.
I also think the bad trailer had something to do with it. Many people thought it looked boring and generic based off of the trailer and chose not to go see it in the theater.

The Flash bombed as well and they were #1 and #2 ... overall it was a bad week for the box office. With only 'No Hard Feelings' opening next week (which is an R-rated comedy), it'll be interesting to see if the Elemental picks up a bit or at least doesn't drop off.

Yeah, but Flash has been a troubled production for a while. It still may have siphoned off some box-office dollars though. It realyl was a dismal weekend a the theaters though - the business has become so hard to predict!

The Cotton Top Tamarin monkeys at AK had two babies 8 days ago. They are so cute and hanging out on mama’s back. The animal care specialist said that they are great parents and they won’t know for a few months if the babies are boys or girls they are staying hands off until they get a bit older.

100%. Even waiting 2 weeks would have helped so the stragglers from TLM and Spiderverse had time to watch those and be available for Elemental.
