Disney Movie Club available in Canada now

Sounds neat! What's the minimum number of movies you have to buy from them? I was trying to find it on their FAQ but it wasn't very specific.

You have to buy 5 movies in two years. You can buy 2 right away at a discount then it's only 3 movies in two years.

Are they in Canadian or Us funds? Thanks

Anyone from Canada done this yet, or done it through the US? Do you think it's a good deal or not? I took a quick look, and there are some movies we are still hoping to add to our collection, so I'm sure we could find 5 to buy over the next 2 years, but the prices seem a little steep. We usually buy previously viewed or wait for sales at the store, so $24.95 seems high to me. Not sure if I should do it or not.

Well, let me explain how I looked at it:

If you take the three starter movies at 2.99 each and also add the 4th and 5th movies at 19.99 and 14.99 Disney pays the shipping. The initial order costs exactly $50 and you get 5 movies. You then need to only buy 3 over the next 2 years

Right now, there's a special where if you spend over $35 you get free shipping. If you buy the three more movies at the minimum price (24.95) you will get the free shipping and your order will cost $85.

You then have 8 movies for $135 which comes to $16.85 a movie. You then become a VIP member and can get deals like buy one get one free and buy one get the rest 50% off.

Things you need to know:

- If you don't plan to take advantage of the extra two movies in the first shipment, or plan to buy movies one at a time and pay full price for shipping, it no longer becomes such a great deal

- A big draw for me was that the club offers exclusive movies you can't find in stores as well as hard to find titles that would cost me well over $30 a piece to order from an online store or Ebay

- The club does not carry new releases right when they come out. From what I understand it takes 2-4 months for a newly released movie to be available to the club. For me this doesn't matter. I buy my new releases from stores if I want them badly enough, and if I don't then I can wait. If you're only looking at it for new releases though, it might not be for you.

- You have to go online once a month to refuse the "featured title" mailing. This is not a big deal for me because I'm always on the computer anyways, but I suppose this could be annoying for some people

So I guess it can save you money if you play your cards right. At the least you can get a bunch of hard to find movies for a good price and get some great deals after your requirements are filled.
