I got a thing in the mail today to join. They are giving you 5 movies for $25.95, and then you have to buy 4 more over the next two years. Starting price of movies is $19.95, plus s/h. It's tempting to get the first 5, but Wal-Mart's and Sam's Club prices are just so much better when new releases come out.

Just wondering if anyone is a member and how do you like it?

I joined and even though Wal MArt or Sams may have a better price at release it was the Initial deal that did it for me...about $5 a piece for 5 movies was well worth it!

Belonged for a while. Got tired of paying $20 to $25 for movies I could get for $15.00 through Circuit City online w/free shipping. I also found that if you did not make a selection, they would send you the featured movie, and it was usually one I already had and had the inconvenience of sending it back for a credit. Glad I'm not in it any more.

I did it when we first got our DVD player andl the girls favorite movies were all VCR, maybe about 2 years ago. It was an ok deal and easy on the $$ to get the first five. Two we used right away and the others were for birthdays soon after I joined. It was easy buying the additional and I never had any trouble with them sending items I didn't want. There was one I ordered and then one of the girls got it as a gift. I called and explained and they took it back no problem. I stopped it about 3 mos ago and that was easy and painless as well.

It was a pleasant easy experience but I did not cost it out compared to walmart et all. Anyone remembering the old music clubs should no it was not like that!

I joined as well. I couldn't resist the initial offer. I fulfilled my obligation and plan on cancelling my membership. I hate when I forget to reply to the card and I get the movie in the mail then I have to return it. I also got a free plush dalmation with one of my orders. My daughter loved it.

:wave2: Thanks for all of your help! I think I'm going to have to jump on this one. The 5 for $25 is calling to me . . . ;)

I am a member...but I agree with the others..when I get a chance I will wait a year..then have DH sign up.

The initail year is great for gifts!!!

Just FYI I had my "selection of the month" done via e-mail and it was easy to just click the link and decline or accept the feature. This is probably the only thing that saved me as I too would not remember to return the cards.

TJ - I can't even remember to do it online lol. I am hopeless

I am a member as well! I figure if you only buy the committment ones, then it does turn out to be a great deal. (Just like the Columbia House deals that are like this.) I have to buy 4 more titles before spring 2005. I'm waiting for some new releases, like Aladdin. Once I buy those last 4, I'll cancel my membership. :)

Oh and I also use the email notices to turn down the title of the month every month. ::yes::

Don't do it!

I recently canceled for a number of reasons.

1. They raised the average price for DVD's again. Usually 22.99 for a new title entry into the club.

2. Shipping prices also went up bringing regular price up to $25 as somebody already noted. You can do better than that through the Disney catalog, not to mention the extras stuff you get form the Disney catalog.

3. Their online system is very problematic. I had many problems withorders and had the last two shipments of the month sent to me despite my replies to refuse them.

It's so sad too. It is a very good idea since many retailers don't carry the full Disney line of videos/DVD's. They also don't allow their titles to be listed with other online clubs.

eta: There is one good reason to join... if you are looking for the first two waves of Disney Treasures DVD's. One of your only choices outisde of ebay.

okay so lets see...

4 dvd's at $25 = $100
5 dvd's for a total of $25 = $25

Total = $125 for 9 dvds.

Works out to 13.88 per dvd.

Thats not so bad to me! I usually pay $20 for my disney dvds because i buy them release day!

Me too. Once I reach my commitment, I'm outta there. Usually once you reach your commitment on a club like this, they start offering you better deals to keep you. But it's still cheaper to buy from half.com, Sam's or Walmart.;)

Ladycollector-don't forget to add tax and shipping and handling. I think S&H is about $3 per DVD, maybe even on the initial deal? Can't remember.

well I thought I was adding shipping (not tax, that applies to anything and everything..) she said dvds were $12 i figure $3 shipping so thats how I came up with

4 dvds $25 each = $100

maybe she meant $25 a dvd??? but thats not the way i took it:crazy:

Yeah, you're right about the tax, and I guess that $25 would include shipping, I just couldn't remember if there was shipping on each of the introductory DVD's...maybe not. I joined anyway, so what do I know??

We joined- they run specials all the time for free shipping- I don't think I've had to pay shipping yet on any purchases, including the initial selections.

Some prices are steep, but some titles you normally can't find in the stores are on sale for very good prices.

So far, I have been happy with the Club. I just fulfilled my obligation, so I will wait to see what the benefits are to belonging to the "VIP" club. If they aren't great, I'll probably cancel. I figure they will be like other DVD and Book clubs and lure you back with great deals!:teeth:
