Hello fellow Dis'ers, I was reading in the Birmbaum guide today that the Disney Marathon was ran on January 6th this past January. Dose anyone know when the Marathon will be ran this next January, and are the All-Star resorts the resorts to stay away from? I'd love to hear from anyone who has knowledge of this, and I appreciate the input.

The 2003 marathon is on 1/12.

There are packages which include lodging, but we found last year that a large numbre of the runners did not use the package. We were at the GF and there were more than several other runners there. We met people who were staying at pretty much all the other resorts--many at the BW, BC, YC, OKW and CBR off the top of my head.

Last year I think most of the runners who took the package stayed st Sports.

In all honesty I think they are a pretty quiet group, not like the teenaged sports and cheerleading groups, and you wo'nt find huge groups milling about, most are there with their family or a couple other runners at most.

The first WDW marathon we went to was January '01. For the package, NO discounts were offered. And the only plus was being able to attend a pasta dinner.
I figured that pasta dinner was going to cost us around $400. Needless to say we didn't book the marathon package.
For this year's marathon, I didn't even bother checking for packages.
We bought AP's and got a great rate at ASMo for $55 a night with tax, and really enjoyed the resort.

We are planning a repeat visit for January '03.
Although the expo will be at CSR next time. So I suspect more marathoners will stay there this time.
BTW -- last January DH & I attended the Disney Deads (Runners) off-site pre-race pasta dinner.
And the runners are pretty low key. The most inconvenience I experienced was running out of hot water at CSR January '01. (Not a mjor inconveience, but it did happen to me and other guests at CSR that morning.)
The runners have to get to Epcot VERY early. Most get up around 2 - 3 a.m., they shower, and special buses take them to the start line at Epcot.

I was at the AKL this year on Marathon weekend and it sure seemed like there were a lot of Marathoners there! The only inconvenience (and it wasn't major) was that Boma's was very crowded on Saturday nite, not with Marathoners-maybe they were friends and family. But Marathon morning Boma's was much quieter. Like a previous poster said, this was 8:00, probably long after Marathoners were up and out.

I was just worried about the large crowds that accompany the marathon, but since the marathon is on the 12th and I leave the 11th there won't be too much of a problem. Of course there will be some crowding later in the week, but it would be closer to my departure date. Thanks ducklite for letting me know when the marathon is going to be held.

We were there during the Marathon in 2001. All of the moderates were booked solid. We had originally planned for our trip to go through Friday and then decided to stay Saturday night as well. We couldn't get a room at POFQ (where we were staying) or any of the moderates. We ended up at CR the last night.

Thanks Kermit for the imput, being book solid is what I'm affraid of. The one nice thing is I'm already going to be there so I'll have my room. I just need to get my reservations in as soon as the codes come out. I want to try and book a room at the All-Stars on the AAA rate. If I can then I'll already be there so I won't have to worry about getting a room. Thanks again everyone for your imputs.
