Disney Magic trip coming up, has anyone been on the Magic this year and have opinions about the food?

Sounds like the food on the European sailings is a different situation than what I experienced out of Miami in late April.

I was happy with the food. Sometimes I wished I had ordered something else - like fish instead of the pork dinner in Rapunzel’s (The pork platter appetizer was good, though).

September 2021 on the Dream was probably best food, overall, of my 19 sailings.

I am not a connoisseur. I have never felt MDR food was spectacular, but is probably better than most of the meals I cook. I am learning to order fish more often (not scallops or shrimp), as they seem to present a nice moist filet. This is a shift away from beef, just for variety.

Interestingly the Magic in Europe had some regional selections each (or most) nights vs the standard menu. Some of those were my best dishes!

We were on the Magic in April, food was great - take note, it was the first time we did late seating and we noticed the difference! Empty tables, servers less busy, they threw lots of extras at us without us asking (your son loved the scallops? *drops off a bowl full of extra scallops a few minutes later*).

I’ll second this. We were on in Europe as well. Actually thought the food was better than I remember, and as always, the Magic consistently has excellent service and our cruise was no exception.

This was exactly our experience in Europe in June. Better than I remembered. As always, I don't expect the food to be as good as a restaurant cooking it to order, but some dishes were, while most were just good enough that I was a happy eater. I didn't have anything I would call bad.

We did have a great server who took the time each night to make some recommendations, and I found he was usually right. So that may have helped.

Quick service was even better than I we had on the two Fantasy cruises we sailed. One thing that surprised me was a burger I got one night. It was so good, but I don't know if it was because I was just hungry from a long day of excursions. The shawarma was really good too.

On the Magic now. Book Palo if you want great food. The MDRs are as they’ve always been. Good on presentation, lacking on taste/flavor but passable. It’s almost like they are afraid to put spices of any kind in food. I guess because of the wide audience they are catering to.

Lack of spice is my biggest complaint too. It cracks me up when servers warn us of something being spicy, because it never is. Not all of us American's are that sensitive to spice. But I think the ones who are must complain a lot to have created the situation. where DCL seems afraid to make anything spicy.

I’ve seen several posts complaining that food on DCL is too ‘out there’ but I do wish that DCL did spicier food. Or even dishes that had something other than potatoes with them 🤣

Oh no about the steaks! We'll be on the Magic soon and I was checking out the menus - and most of it was not appealing so was planning on having the "lighter note" steak most of the time. (I've always found the "lighter note" chicken to be so dry.)

I'd at least give them a try, because in June, I had a really good one. It may depend a lot on their supplier.

Really? People complain about it being too out there? That would not be the words I'd used to describe it. Not ragging on the food, just I could not begin to think of the food as "out there." Maybe in 1998 before we had everyone watching food shows and most towns have a few international varieties in their restaurant options. But currently?

One thing I feel DCL does not do well is international food. When they try to make something like Ramen, or Pirogies they are always really strange versions of the real thing. Like someone described the dish and the chef cooked it without ever actually trying the dish themselves. Not terrible but not correct either.

Ever see those little bottles of Tabasco sauce, sometimes served with a Bloody Mary? I never travel without a dozen or so! At the price, hope I don't encounter overly bland food on the Fantasy.
