Day 1
Friday, August 1, 2008
We were leaving from JFK on 9:15am flight. Thats an early flight for us, but not as early as our trip in 06. That flight was at like 7am (which means we had to leave at 5am) .way too early for us night owls! So, we left for the airport around 7am.
Heres us waiting as our car service was being loaded with our luggage.
We got one of those 12 passenger vans to go to the airport in. We did not want to get two being they are expensive. So Carries mom Diane drove Carrie, Carol, Tina, Kelly and Aunt Ginny to the airport and the rest of us took the van.
We made it to the airport in good time (haha New York traffic, you didnt get to mess with us this time!) The JetBlue terminal was KA-RAZ-EEE!!! The lines were so long and the place was so busy, I thought we were already in Disney World. (Jet Blue is actually opening a brand new terminal in JFK, come to think of it I believe it opens today. I am excited to go to it in November!) Back to this trip. My Aunt and I went over to print out the boarding passes. It took forever because the machines were being stupid. Really, that was the technical term for the problem .machine stupidity. The rest of our group waited with the luggage while we were fiddling with the machines. As I walked away I said to Chrissy watch my bag, Ill be right back. Finally the machine became less stupid and we got all the boarding passes printed out. We go back over to where everyone was and I noticed something different. Yes, thats it .my suitcase was missing!!
I started the first of many freakouts on this trip!
The dialogue went something like this:
Me: Chris, wheres my suitcase?
Chrissy: What? What are you talking about?
Me: I asked you to watch my bag, where is it?
Chrissy:You did not ask me to watch your bag. I dont know
Me: Uh, yeah I did!
Chrissy:No you didnt!
With that Kelly comes over with my bag and says that a Jet Blue attendant had brought it over because it was laying in the middle of the terminal. Apparently our group moved over from where we were and had left my bag behind. Thanks a lot Chrissy!!!
We checked our bags and headed off to security. Smooth sailing there and we off to the boarding gates!
We had a little bit of time before we had to board, so what do we do .eat of course!
We found two tables in the food court area and everyone went off to find something. I got pizza .yup thats right, its now 8:15 in the morning and Im enjoying pizza. The only thing that would have made it better was if it was cold! Mmm I LOVE cold pizza in the morning, seriously its good!
We continued to eat, use the bathroom, purchase some magazines and wait.
Heres Taylor with Rusty & her Wall-E doll
Nicky & Hailey playing with their many gifts that had already been bought for them. Chrissy, Kelly & I bought them gift bags with some cute Disney themed items. While we were in the airport, Emily and Uncle Joe also bought them some gifts.
Boarding time!!!!
Heres some of us on the plane (sorry, they came out blurry. I didn't have my flash on. it was too early for me and that no sleep wasn't helping!)
L to R: Carol, Tina & Carrie
Nicky was in the seat in front of us. He was so EXCITED!
Me & Chrissy
No, we were not traveling with a monk, that was Kelly. Kelly does not like the take off and landing portion of the flight. She has to have a window seat, but will not keep the shade open for those parts. She also wears a sweatshirt and keeps the hood up and her eyes closed (as pictured above). Then she grips the arm rests for dear life. I know its mean but this little scene usually makes us laugh. As you can see Chrissy was enjoying it.
The flight was good and we arrived in Orlando around 12pm.
Waiting for our luggage to come off the carousel. Oh how I wish we were staying at a Disney Resort and using ME
I love this pic of Nicky. His dad asked him to pull one of the bags because we had so many. And he was happy to help!
Now time to get our rental cars.
Here were are on the bus over to the rental place:
We rented three vehicles from the Hertz Company, Simply Wheelz. Its their cheaper company. Now I know why it is. DONT EVER USE THEM. THEY WERE TERRIBLE!!!!!!! You take a shuttle from the airport to there. No problems with that part. The trouble started when we started talking to one of their customer service agents. You have to do all the checking in yourself via a kiosk. Its confusing (and Im computer savy) its not like we rent cars every day. My Aunt and I were up there trying to figure it out and they customer service agents were talking .to each other. Everytime we asked them something, it was a bother.
Well, when we got our cars
they were NO WHERE NEAR to what we were promised. UGH!!! They were smaller and could not accommodate 7 people and luggage like our confirmation had stated. Everything was wrong!!!! After my aunt and I started to get loud. Thats right
.dont cross this group of New Yorkers. We ended up getting one van and two smaller cars. VERY FRUSTRATING! We still did not get everything we were supposed to. But we couldnt spend the whole day there complaining. So off we went in our rental cars. (I forgot to get a pic of them
.better off that I didnt anyway. It would have just annoyed me everytime I looked at them)
