disney magic seemed to be on a vacation & it wasn't mine (Aug. 1-7 TR) UPDATE 10/23

With a little more than 3 weeks left, I really have to make a list of all the things I would like to do before I leave for my trip.

1) Monday, 7/21 - Get my haircut - Just a trim, it needs it, the ends are so dead. I don't think I have had it cut since November.
2) Monday, 7/28 - Color my hair - I think I'm going to go darker again. I've been having a personal battle for a few months now on whether I should make it darker (like a chocolate brown) or not as dark (like a honey brown) or just redo the blond (which always turns out to be strawberry blond) My hair is naturally a dirty blond/light brown color. Yes, I am definitely going to go chocolate brown. I do it myself...I don't like spending all that money at the hair place getting it done...and I think I do a pretty good job
3) Thursday, 7/31 - Manicure and Pedicure - because having professionally done nails will last much longer than the sloppy job I do....plus I will also be getting pampered. It will be like starting my vacation early!
4) This weekend - Go to the outlets - I need to make a list of the things I still need for my trip.
5) Pack! I don't need to start just yet, but by the beginning of next week I will set up my suitcase.
6) Cash in my change - I don't know how much I have, hopefully enough for all my food in the parks. (we mostly do CS, but there will probably be a meal or 2 TS)

So that's what I can think I right now....I'll have to add to the list if I think of something else.

Day 2 - August 2, 2008

MGM DAY!!

I have to first say that I am jealous of the people in most trip reports. In most that I read, everyone gets up early to get to the opening of the park. Well, early for my family is getting up at 9 and getting to the parks by 11. But hey, that's how we have been doing it for the past few visits and it seems to work out just fine for us. (although I would like to get started a little earlier, but it's Disney.....I just have to go with the flow)

Breakfast will be had at our timeshare today

Then it's off to the park for me, Chrissy, Kelly, Carol, Carrie, Tina, Aunt Ginny, Kim, Lee, Taylor, Nicky and Hailey...Emily might join us today, but we're not sure. 12 people...yup, we'll be needing two cars to get there.
Uncle Joe & Joey will be playing golf today.

These are the MUSTS for MGM:
Tower of Terror (MY FAVORITE!!!!) The theming for this ride is awesome. Twilight Zone has been one of my favorite shows since I was little. I am excited for Taylor to go on this, she loves TZ too. She might get a little freaked out, but I think she will brave it to be one of the big girls.

Lights, Motors, Action Stunt Show
We have never done this before and I know it is a must for Chrissy

Rock 'n Roller Coaster
Love this ride also. I still remember when we tried to get Kelly to go on it a few years back and while we were waiting in line, she saw it take off, she started to cry...she was so scared. Well, she did go on it that time and she loved it.

Star Tours
This ride is just so 80's, its wonderful!! I remember the first time went on it and it was a THRILL ride for me.

Muppet Vision 3D
Some might think it's a little lame now...but I LOVE the Muppets. They are my all time fav (hence my name)
side note: does anyone kow if you can meet Miss Piggy and Kermit anywhere in the park? I saw pics of someone that did, not sure if they were from MGM or when they were from.

Indiana Jones Stunt Show
I haven't seen this show at least 10 years, maybe longer....I'm anxious to get back and see it this year.

The Great Movie Ride
When I was 9, I went on this ride...and fell in love. Not only with the ride but with movies too. And since then, I have gone on the ride numerous times since. And each time I go on, I hope that there will be something new. I say to myself, "yes, it's been a while, they have to have added something new." And each time, disappointment. C'mon Disney, what is going on!!!?? This ride need an update!! Okay, complaining done! Thanks for listening. I will of course still go on this.

Fantasmic
I saw this for the first time 3 years ago when I went with my friend. What an amazing show. I keep telling the rest of the group that we must, must see it and I don't think they are getting it. AHH!!! How can I convince them!?

FOOD: (remember, we're foodies!)
Since we go a little later, we eat a later lunch/dinner kinda thing...Linner perhaps?? Not sure where we are having it yet. We do a lot of CS, so we may hit up our old stand-by the ABC commisary.
And of course there will be plenty of stopping for snacks along the way. I always bring a water bottle with me and just refill at water fountains through out the day. I don't mind Florida water the way some people in my group do.

Not to say this is everything we will do, but just some important stops for the day.

If your family has anything they definitely do while at MGM, please let me know, I love to find out new things. We are always in a routine, it's easy to miss some great things!!

Then I scrolled down and saw that Kevin was your brother. Now I feel stupid. Oh well. I have to tell my Mom though she loved Kevin.

But other than that you guys look like you are going to have a blast! Your timeshare is SO nice. I am jealous. You don't have long at all .. I bet your excited.

I was over at my aunt's house tonight...the whole gang was there...well, most of the gang anyways. Kim, Lee and their kids are over for the weekend. YAY!! LOVE THEM. Taylor, Chrissy and I decided to go out and get something for dinner. We went to Chipotle and Panera. We had a delicious meal, I had Panera, Chrissy got Chipotle and we found out that Taylor does NOT like the Tacos at Chipotle...yeah, we coudlda told you that.
We're on our way there and Taylor starts talking about my dog Rusty (side note: Rusty is not a real dog...he is a small stuffed animal that sits on my dashboard. My cousin, Kelly got him for me for Christmas last year. I kept going on and on about how I wanted a "hot dog" dog - a real one. Well this was the best anyone could come up with. ) His full name is Rusty Umberto Silver - his intials spell RUS.... ....yea I know, I'm a little crazy.
SO ANYWHOOOO.......Taylor was talking about Rusty (we prentend he's real) and how he will miss us when we are away. Then in my head, "DING" time. I said, "hey, why don't we bring Rusty with us and take pics of him on the trip." Yes, yes I totally stole the idea from some of you here .....but those none DISers do not know that. To them, I am a genius. Taylor loved the idea and decided that one of her webkins must come along to accompany Rusty.

(I will take a pic of RUS tomorrow since I am sure you are all dying to see what he looks like)

Should I really call this a TR? Or should it be something new…possibly the “I took my trip almost three months ago, never finished my PTR and now I have decided to write about it”.
Has a nice ring to it doesn’t it?

So where have I been? What took so long? What is with all the questions?
Some of you may have read the PTR that I started, "we don't need a plan, we have Disney magic!"
I did take my trip in August, but while I was away life gave me a huge reality check and kinda took over for a while. I will talk about it all in the trip report (I have to keep you coming back, right?) but I will let you know that everything is working itself out and things are going up hill once again. And adding to the positives is another trip to the WORLD! Okay, it’s a mini trip, a long weekend some of you may say. Even so, it’s a trip to DISNEY WORLD!!!

I’ll talk more about that later on in the report, right now I want to get started on this TR. Taking you through the craziness that was our “vacation”. I will do a quick recap of who is going on this trip and then get started with the trip. (If you want to read any of my unfinished PTR, go here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1879062 . That may give you some more info)

that's me, Katie (24) - super sarcastic disney fanatic who loves ALL THE RIDES

that's my aunt, Ginny (50's) - loves coming to the parks with us, but also loves her poolside time as well

that's my uncle, Joe (50's) <Ginny's Husband> - loves taking his family on vacations and LOVES to play golf....he may come to one park with us

that's my cousin, Kim (30's) <Ginny & Joe's Daughter> - loves going to the parks and going on the thrill rides.....if she gets a chance, watching the little ones sometimes prevents her

that's my cousin, Lee (30's) <Kim's Husband> - might play golf one day with Joe, but will most likely be with us at all the parks

that's my cousin, Taylor (8) <Kim & Lee's Daughter> - she is 8 going on 18. she has already said that she wants to do everything the older girls do. She has not tried some of the bigger thrill rides yet, so this should be interesting.

that's my cousin, Nicky (4) <Kim & Lee's Son> - he is Woody's #1 fan (I know, some of you may have one in your house too!) He definitely does not like scary rides or the dark, so he won't be too adventureous, but he is going to love meeting all his favorite characters.

that's my cousin, Hailey (2) <Kim & Lee's Daughter> - she's our only 1st timer!! She does EVERYTHING that Nicky does, but she is a little braver than him. So I am anxious to see what she will be ready for.

that's my cousin, Chrissy (22) <Ginny & Joe's Daughter> - we will probably do everything together on this trip. She loves the parks and is the best navigator in them (besides me of course! )

that's my cousin, Kelly (20) <Ginny & Joe's Daughter> - very upset that she is not old enough to go to the clubs at Pleasure Island, especially since she will never have the chance. Made her a thrill ride lover the last time we were there

that's my friend, Carrie (21) <Neighbor of Chrissy & Kelly> - the Vegan of the group! She has been to the parks before with us. COLOR]

that's my friend, Carol (20) <Neighbor of Chrissy & Kelly> - Not quite a Vegan, but is health conscience. She also came with us 2 years ago!

that's my friend, Tina (21) - Tina is a little wary of the thrill rides, but she was pretty brave last time we went. We'll see if she is still the same this year.

Day -1
July 31

The car service to the airport was coming to pick us up at my aunt and uncle’s house, so I decided to stay over there the night before. Well since there was 9 other people staying the house that night, I had a couch to sleep on. No big deal though, I can usually sleep anywhere. I slept on the couch in the downstairs living room and Taylor of course asked to sleep in there with me. I said of course….so she slept on the air mattress on the floor next to me.

Taylor is holding my Sleeping Beauty that I got back in '05. I had also brought home a Tinkerbell one for Chrissy that trip. Not sure why I got her Tink. Her favorite is Ariel and always has been. Weird.

We watched Toy Story 2 as we layed down to go to sleep. Everyone else finished there packing and went up to bed. Taylor and I weren’t too tired….we were too excited about the trip!! We discussed all the things we were going to do and see and all the fun pics we wanted to take (unfortunately, we never got to do all of that ). We continued to watch Toy Story and decided that we would try and go to sleep after that.

At some point while we were watching, Chrissy came downstairs to see what was going on. We had a little photosho0t at around 12:30 in the morning. We were just so restless! Who can sleep when seeing the mouse is only hours away!!

You may have noticed someone else in the pictures with me, Chrissy & Taylor. That is Ms. Mickey. It was actually a Minnie doll that we got for Hailey. But the bow fell off...therefore she became Mickey in dress. And Ms. Mickey was born.

Finally we did get to sleep and I had a great rest before the big day ahead of us tomorrow…………..wouldn’t that be great if that’s what had actually happened. Taylor fell asleep somewhere around 2am. That’s right, the 8 year old was up til 2am. I told you we were night owls. And I NEVER FELL ASLEEP!!! I just wasn’t tired. First I shut the TV off for a while, then I turned it back on to see if the sound would distract me. Then around 4am, I saw that Doctor Who was on the SciFi channel. I LOVE Doctor Who! I have seen every episode, but it was one I really enjoyed so of course I stayed up to watch it. By the time it was over it was 5am and I decided to get up and shower because there was a long line of people that wanted to shower that morning. I didn’t want to take mine last and then not have enough time to get ready.
