I had the pleasure of chatting with a Gentleman who is working with a team involved in Disney transportaion from the airport to either your resort or your favorite park. The coaches will feature disney themes, music, flat screen tv's, etc. Your luggage will be able to be transferred from your plane to your room, allowing you to go straight to the parks if you want to.

The Disney Cruise Line offers this in their airport to the ship transports. It's very nice. We loaded our luggage at BOS and didn't see it again (or have to carry anything) until we finally got to our rooms. It was great! :Pinkbounc

MickeyMac,

The guy I spoke with developed the cruise line transportation so he is a good choice to head up this project.

Any idea of when they might be planning on implementing this. It would be great for our trip in May. We are planning on using Tiffany Town Car, but this may be better.

mickeymule,

My guess is that this will be in place within a year or 2, not a month or 2. At first I thought he was talking about the bullet train (old news), but he agreed that there are political, logistical, and years of construction issues complicating this. He suggested the Disney transportation would occur on a much quicker timetable but my guess is that May would be pushing it.

Oh well, it was worth a shot. I know better than to get my hopes up ;-)

So this will be bus service? In other words, MORE buses on property. Hmmmm...

I'm a little confused by Disney's decision to do something like this. In early discussions with the state of Florida over where the proposed high speed airport train was going to stop, Disney threatened to included airport shuttle service with every package deal if the train was to stop at the convention center rather then a non-stop between WDW and the Airport. The shuttle service would rob 2 million or more passengers away from the train, without which the train would operate at a tremendous loss. With the recent announcements that the train was going to be a direct Disney shuttle, it appeared Disney's threat was successful.

So how are we to interprete this new shuttle service ? Does Disney believe the rail line will never be built ? Is there still a chance the train will stop at the convention center and Disney is preparing to back up it's threat ? Where does Mears fit into all this ?

Perhaps, but each coach replaces what, 15 towncars or rental cars?
But would it? Wouldn't many travelers still want the privacy of their own towncar or the grocery stop? Don't people who rent cars generally want to be able to get around WDW more quickly or even to leave whenever they wish?

I truthfully wonder if this will hurt anyone besides Mears and their ilk.

Monorail from the airport doesn't make a lot of sense. It would get you to some central point by Disney. You'd then have to change (with your luggage) to a bus. I don't see how that would be better than a towncar. I'm not even sure it'd be any better than Mears.

The Disney transport is interesting. You don't have to touch your luggage. You can go right to a park. May reduce some of the pressure to get rooms ready early. Disney could set up a desk in the airport. Get your room keys and park passes. All you'd have to do is call a number later to find out your room number (and that your room is ready).

Hi,
I see mention of a town car..I usually dont use any airport transportation but in July and sept I will be coming to the parks for events.

I want to get back and forth economically as I am staying on my own on property. So once i get there I just need to go to the bus stops to go to a park.

I have used Mears in the past whne we have flown in and my Inlaws could pick us up. So what is the best and least expensive way if I am traveling alone to get from airport to WDW resorts?

Thanks and sorry if this is wrong forum but transportation I never thought of until I saw this thread..

Thanks,
Jeff

corkeyk,

There is an entire board dedicated to transportation. Mears would probably be the cheapest for traveling alone, especially if you don't need a grocery stop.

There is no best and least expensive way.

A town car service or a rental car is the best way depending on whether you like to drive or want to go off site every now and then.

Mears' shuttle is the cheapest reasonable way for one or two people. The city bus (Lynx) is the absolute cheapest but it is circuitous namely you travel away from WDW several miles to a transfer point in Orlando and then catch the bus to WDW.
