Disney Magic - Nov 10, 2012 - Western Caribbean from Galveston - Sun, Fun & Beaches!

We have all received our Mickey mail for all the cabins. One of out inside GTY cabins is still unassigned. Does anyone know when we could get the assignment?
Ummm, hello Ajojo, welcome to our cruise? Sorry, I don't recognize your name here, and I don't have you on the roll call.

Hi. I will be joining y'all on this cruise. It will be myself(Jenn) & my DSis(Courtney). This trip is a college graduation gift for her. This is my 2nd Disney cruise, 1st was on the Magic in 2006. It will be Courtney's 1st Disney cruise. I am looking forward to a relaxing trip without the kids. I know the FE is closed, any other activities being planned? Less than 30 days, yipee!
Hi Jenn, Sorry for taking so long to get to you, I was away on business for a couple of nights. Yes, we're having a meet on the Sunday at 1:00 in Rockin' Bar D. I'll have name tags (mental note to pick some up:rolleyes1) and it'll be informal for an hour or so. Sorry for those that have Palo brunch at that time, but better here than on a port day!

My family will be on the cruise. Shane 41 Dana 38 at arrival 39 around Cozumel time and Jenny 8. We are first time cruisers and we can't wait! We ordered a FE and small gifts to share. My daughter has no idea yet so I'm thinking of a fun way to surprise her. Any tips?
Welcome Shane and Dana! I have added the new members of the thread to the Roll Call. Will post shortly at the top of page5

I don't think I can surprise pack with out her knowing. I bought her a pirate costume because i heard they have a pirate party onboard. I was thinking about giving it to her for Halloween and then when she gets home after trick or treating I want to give her a treasure box full of beads and princess jewels and chocolate coins etc with a hidden x marks the spot and under the x have a card or a picture or something so she will be surprised. just one thought.
DW already bought me a costume that fits! (Ok, I'm NOT SMALL!). Last DCL cruise, I did not try on my costume until Pirate night and, well, DW and DD wore parts of it instead. Also, if you're rather 'big-headed', the bandanas won't fit on your heads either. Bring your own for sure!
3 weeks from tomorrow we sail!
Also Shane & Dana, Jenny will have a great time! If you're in Galveston on the Friday night, we're thinking of hitting the Rainforest Cafe that happens to be a walk from our Holiday Inn. You're welcome to join us! (This is open to everyone!:))

Sweet were driving in Friday but not sure what time we will get there. I plan to check out Holiday inn as well.

I'm still trying to figure out a clever way to tell our daughters (10 and 7). We're going to pick them up from school on Friday 11/9 and head to the airport. I'm thinking of having a sort of scavenger hunt, with clues that they get by solving puzzles together. It may take them a while to figure out, bc I'm not even sure they realize that the Magic is going out of Galveston (this will be our fourth cruise, we have a "dummy" cruise booked on the Fantasy next year). They are going to go wild when they figure out about the cruise, then they are really going to freak out when they find out grandma is coming with us AND they're going to get to see their TX aunts, uncles and cousins when we get to Houston.

I'm going to take the clues in our carry on to the airport and let them work on it there. I will probably give them little gifts as they solve the clues....one of the last gifts will be a bunch of pins to trade (just bought a lot of them dirt cheap on eBay...girls will be thrilled!)

I love both ideas.

I am having a very happy Friday. My letter of approval for British Citizenship arrived today. Graham emailed me at work to let me know that an official looking brown envelope had arrived. I rang him as soon as I saw this and asked him if he opened it, which he had not. I asked him to open it. The letter is actually dated 12th October. I asked him what the date on the letter was, but I knew the answer before he told me. Last Friday I had one of my admin days at work. Amongst other things, they are there so that we can do our call monitoring, which to say the least is not my favourite part of the job. Still, I was fine and getting on with the job at hand. Suddenly around 15:00, I got really antsy, could not concentrate and just could not settle down to anything. This lasted for about 45 minutes and then I was fine again. I am sure that this is when the case worker looked at my file and made the decision.

Actually strictly speaking, I did not get a letter of approval. I got the invitation to a citizenship ceremony, which normally comes a bit later. So I don't know what happened to the actual approval letter. Still, this has everything on it that I need.I rang the local council straightaway to try to organize the citizenship ceremony, but they have not received the paperwork from the Home Office yet. I did manage to get out of the person I spoke to that they are currently scheduling citizenship ceremonies for 7th November, which is of course precisely the date I want. I need to ring back on Monday. Keep your fingers crossed for me that they still have slots for this on Monday. Today we will celebrate with steak and chips and a bottle of Rosa Regale. More celebrating will be done on this cruise.

What great news! But even if they can perform the citizenship ceremony on the date you want in November, will you be able to get a new passport in time for the trip? (Not that it really matters, as long as *you* know you have your citizenship, and as long as you have a valid passport so you can travel!)

I just realized....that is exactly when our Palo brunch is scheduled!

Oh, well -- I will be there in spirit, but much as I'd love to meet everyone, I just can't give up our brunch! I'm sure everyone who's eaten there can understand ;)

I'm sure I'll see some of you around the ship. And/or our children will meet one another in the clubs!

No, the new passport will take 4 to 6 weeks so I won't apply for this until I get back. I will have dual citizenship (British and German) and will travel on my German passport.

What a shame, but I hope you enjoy your brunch. I would not give up ours for anything either.

We are at the same hotel Thursday and Friday night. I got a nice industry travel rate for this.

My husband is German too! I am sure he will love to talk with you more. Actually, to be more clear, he was born in Germany and raised there for about 3 years. He spent many summers there as well as 2 years on his mission for our church. All of his aunts and uncles still live in Germany and we go back from time to time. His mom lives in Seattle, Wa now. We are so looking forward to this cruise but will miss our 4 boys. Thank you for all the planning you have done for this cruise! Congrats on your British citizenship!
