Disney Magic Behind the Steam trains Is it worth the time and Money?

Hi everyone, we are going to WDW in August and we have been several times and I want to try out the behind the scenes tours. I was wondering if anyone went on the Magic behind the Steam trains tour at MK and if you enjoyed it? Was it worth the money or time?

We had a great time and well worth the money, especially if you want WDW Railroad history!

My buddy and I took the tour and the wives did the morning at the GF spa!

My BF looooove trains. So I got him this tour for Valentine's Day in 2014. Mind you he is also a sleepyhead and is terrible about waking up. But for a chance to see the roundhouse, and climb into the engine and be surrounded by all things trains? Yeah he loved it. Heck I enjoyed it, though I started to pass out during the last part of the tour (but that was a lot of history stuff that I already knew because I'm me. It was all new to BF and he was wide awake.)

So totally worth the money, and if you like trains, MORE than worth the money and time!

Absolutely. And that's coming from a non-train loving person. We did this tour on our last trip for my dad, who IS a train lover. I hadn't seen him smile that much or that big in a LONG time. And I was completely mesmerized. That was December 2013 and we still talk about it on a regular basis. Loved loved loved that tour and would do it again....even without my train-loving dad in tow.

I'm not a huge train enthusiast I just like tours and behind the scenes things. I really did like this. It's not a very expensive tour, they give you a lot of information (and depending on your tour guide some really funny stories, mine told how they are no longer allowed to throw fire starters at each other. LOL), and there is a nice little pin if you're in to that sort of thing.

It does happen really god awful in the morning, but then again it brings a whole new light to the MK before opening. We actually saw something you NEVER see, a modern car on main street. They even asked us not to take pictures as they never want a modern car/truck pictured on main street.

My husband and son did this tour many many years ago, and LOVED it!!

How far in advance did you make reservation for the tour?

You have to be AT the gates ready to go at 7:30 am. Not a minute later. In fact they told me to be there at 7:15, becaus. Because they bring a train up (and they actually park it with the engine centered on the station which is only done for this tour and publicity) and you ride it back out to the round house they can't have it wait for someone who is late.

It lasted about 2 1/2 hours I think. Maybe a little more. I was done with enough time to ride some FP+ then eat lunch.

I reserved a little over a month out or so, maybe closer to 1 1/2 months.
