Just booked the 10 Day Mediterranean for June 2019! Just looking for general info - advice for shore excursions, any special event/themed days on the ship, etc. This will be our 4th Disney cruise, but we haven't been on the Magic in a long time, and we've never done the Mediterranean itinerary. Thanks for any input or advice! :)

I'll be interested in the answers. We just signed up for the 6 night and 8 night back to back. Thanks for posting the question.

We did the 7 night DCL Med. cruise about a year and half ago and loved it. As others will say, it is port-intensive (of course, your choices make it that way) with long bus rides to get to ruins/sites/views. We did DCL excursions to Naples/Sorrento/Pompeii, Rome/Coliseum/Vatican, Florence/Pizza and Marcellus. The last one was a substitute for Monte Carlo because the water was too rough for tendering there. Did the Avignon/winery excursion and it was awesome. If you sign up for a trip that goes from 8am to 6pm, tell your wait staff the night before so they know you will be a bit late to dinner. Be aware that security is pretty heavy at the tourist-intensive sites, lines will be long (DCL gets you a fast-pass where it can) and the vendors are nearing massive. However, the sites are what they are...if you want the Vatican, there is only one, so suck it up and muddle through. You will be thankful at the end of the day/trip and you will love what your camera helps you relive. Don't know if you are leaving from Barcelona but if you are and also want to visit Florence, read the last two Dan Brown novels. One covers most of Florence. The last, "Origin" is mostly based in Barcelona and goes through several Gaudi structures.
Wife and I have been on the Magic three times. The shows are great, the food yummy and crew great. When you go to the safety drill, don't be surprised if one or two of the crew members running it are also in the shows and are handlers for Disney characters you will see later on...loads of fun getting to know them.
Have fun and count the days...we always do.

Thank you so much GPaLarry! This is very informative. The Vatican is definitely on my list, so I will deal with whatever crowds it includes. I would also like to see some wineries if possible, so I'll look into those excursions too. We'll be visiting family in Genoa, so I'm not sure where that falls in with regard to the places you mentioned. We also have a late dinner time (always our preference on cruises), so that shouldn't be an issue with full day excursions. We'll be in Barcelona for a day and a half before the cruise, so I was planning on visiting a few sites that I know I'd like to see in that time. I do remember the Magic being wonderful...the last time we were on it was our honeymoon in '04. Our son is already looking forward to the shows and the water slides! Thank you again! :)

We'll be going in a couple of months. I highly recommend Rick Steve's book on Mediterranean Cruise Ports. You'll also see several posts on this board about the latest updates to the Magic ship itself including a new restaurant called Rapunzel's table. There are also other social media sites that have more information about the different European ports.

I will definitely pick up a book on the ports. Thank you for the suggestion!
